“one of the nation's oldest botanic gardens”

Berkshire Botanical Garden is of the nation's oldest botanic gardens. It is a not-for-profit, membership-supported educational organization encompassing 15 acres of cultivated land at the intersection of Routes 102 and 183 in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Its public display gardens are open May through mid-October. Both functional and ornamental, they are among the oldest in the US and have been expanded over the years in breadth and variety through a series of bequests and major gifts. Our collections emphasize plants that are indigenous to or thrive in the Berkshires; more than 3,000 species and varieties are represented.

Very beautiful gardens. Close to historic Stockbridge, West Stockbridge, and Housatonic towns which provide all the good museums and eats you would need. It's a day trip and probably not stimulating enough for young kiddos. But if gardens are your thing this should be on your list. Local tip: check to see if there are any weekend festivals here if you're in town. They've got a great Harvest Fest.
