Cannon's Point Preserve

Cannon’s Point Preserve (CPP) is a 600-acre tract of greenspace at the north end of St. Simons Island open for public exploration. CPP features wild native species, beautiful mature maritime forest, and six miles of marsh-upland interface. The preserve is also is linked to the lower Altamaha River delta which is one of the most biologically rich systems and considered by The Nature Conservancy as a coastal area of highest priority, even internationally. There are numerous shell rings and middens on site dating back to 2500 BCE as well as plantation ruins dating back to the 19th Century. The property was acquired by the St. Simons Land Trust in September 2012 for $24 million from Wells Fargo with the generous financial support of Hank and Wendy Paulson, Pete and Ada Lee Correll, Sea Island Acquisition and many, many other community members. It is operated by the Land Trust and a cohort of skilled volunteers. Future programs will be provided by other local organizations and agencies in partnership with the Land Trust. Cannon’s Point Preserve is a primitive wilderness experience. All visitors should bring their own water, bug spray and snacks. Wear appropriate clothing (long pants, long sleeves, close-toed shoes). There are no pets allowed on the Preserve. Limited restrooms are available in Taylor’s Fish Camp near the parking area. Additional restrooms are located at Frederica Park which is one mile south on Lawrence Road. Access to the north end is limited to bikes and pedestrians only. Take only pictures, leave only footprints.
