The site of the historic Dred Scott slavery case which was one of the seeds of the Civil War. While the Park is under construction, you can buy tickets to the arch here. The Courthouse also holds exhibits from the now-closed Museum of Westward Expansion, formerly located underneath the Arch.
If nothing else go inside really quick and look up at the dome. I did not expect it to be so colorful and ornate! The ranger gave a great overview of the courthouse’s history and the Dred Scott case, and then we got to explore. It’s nice and quiet, and even though it’s hot inside they’re working on getting central air soon.
