This is a big fairgrounds with plenty of camp sites. There’s water and electric but bring plenty of water hose as the hydrants are far and apart.

We arrived on a Saturday night when the office was closed. There is electrical plug-in on almost every light post. Just pick a pol and park. Tons of area to park on the grass or pavement. Only 1 water spigot to fill up your tank. No septic. Wonderful location - convenient to many areas. Just need to make sure the fairgrounds don’t have any events going on. Highly recommend. The office (house) opened on Monday & we paid $30/night

Found this place on Campendium near dusk after pulling into the Springfield Cracker Barrel, noticing teenagers loitering in the parking lot of the motel next door and not feeling very safe there, so I left and went to the fairgrounds instead.

I think I entered the back way, because I came in past stables with horses in them and I did not see an office or any place to register. I did phone before coming, but the office was closed. The place is huge many RVs of all sizes in the campsites themselves or on the access loops around the sites. I probably got there around 8:30 pm and was out by 7 a.m. the following morning. It was a very nice, quiet and safe place to camp, especially for my first night on the road. No road noise or noise from neighboring RV's- though there were many, people were pretty much buttoned up by dark. The only noise I heard, really, was a loud speaker announcement about horse registration for some equestrian event happening at 6:30 a.m.

Convenient to I-70, this camping spot is missing an in-depth description and review. My goal is to give more details.

I started out my stay with a phone call to the fairgrounds office. I wanted to confirm they were open (year round by the way), what events were scheduled during my stay (their website was accurate), and how to pay.

There are four, maybe more, entrances to the fairgrounds. Some are gated and locked. I entered Gate A off Highway 41. At the first street to the right you will find the fair office. Limited hours so calling ahead is best. This is where you make payments. $30 per night. They prefer a check, if you use cash, place it in an envelope. Slide the payment through a slot (low to the ground) on the glass door to the fair office.

Now to a campsite. There could be 500 sites here, they are all around the outside of the grounds. I found some areas blocked off with yellow barrels. There was a horse show going on during my visit, I settled in with them against the fence bordering Champions Park Lake, this being the west side of the grounds. The entrance off Highway 41 is the east side. You have to decide where you want. Wait till I describe the bathroom/shower location before deciding. If that matters.

Parking is on grass, beware if it has rained. Fortunately there are tractors around. Some sites are pull offs, perhaps even on asphalt.

All power is on tall poles, easily identified. The power outlets identify a site. There are one or two outlets per pole. Warning: my pole serviced two sites from a single box. Two breakers with two 50 amp outlets. No other outlets. I repeat, there was only 50 amp service at my site. I did not check other poles but they looked the same. There may be locations with other options. Ask ahead if you need 30 or 20 amp service.

Restrooms with showers are located in the Champion Building. Look for the ATM on Google Maps. They are accessed from the South East side of the building. This would be on the side of I-70. My opinion of the restrooms was very positive. Each had about five curtained shower stalls. I did not use the showers.

The dump station is located in the same general location, near a large quantity of dumpsters. No potable water at the dump. Water spigots are located through the fairgrounds. Staying connected does not appear to be an option, filling only.

This is a very large complex. There are numerous roads and paths. Very few trees. I would recommend looking at Google Maps in satellite view to get a lay of the grounds

We called ahead to the office to check availability. The office was going to close at 4:30 but they left a registration form on the door and we were instructed to put our payment of $30 in the drop box. Sites are not assigned and there are plenty unless they have an event going on. There is a large building with food/bar/store and bathrooms/showers. Electric available at RV sites, water is available for filling and there are 2 dump areas. We enjoyed our stay as there were lots of horses preparing for a show. Definitely will stay again and recommend to others.
