Road Trip Classic

Our Take

Weeki Wachee is old Florida roadside kitsch at its best. The mermaid show is just as cheesy as you think it will be, and yet deceptively simple—tryouts for new mermaids include a 120-foot dive into the spring, a 300-yard timed swim, and a 10-minute water-treading exercise. Weeki Wachee may be past its heyday, but admission includes the mermaid shows, a wildlife show (featuring a three-legged tortoise named Tripod), and a riverboat cruise. If you’re lucky, the park’s two Mold-a-Matic machines will be in working order, but if they aren’t, ask at the gift shop if they have any extra figurines for sale.

“home to live mermaids”

Weeki Wachee is an enchanted spring where you can see live mermaids, take a trip on a river boat cruise, learn about Florida wildlife, and swim in the pristine waters at Buccaneer Bay. You can also embark on a paddling adventure down the pristine waterway of the Weeki Wachee River. Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is one of Florida’s most legendary and unique family destinations, entertaining audiences since 1947. Since 1947, Weeki Wachee Springs State Park has been dazzling visitors with its beautiful, mesmerizing mermaids who swim in its cool, crystal-clear waters. This legendary enchanted spring, the only one of its kind in the world, is one of Florida’s most unique roadside attractions. This amazing park also offers kayak rentals, paddling adventures and river boat cruise. Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is a magical entrance into a mysterious blue underwater world of mermaids, manatees, turtles and bubbles. Sitting in the 400-seat submerged Mermaid Theater, you’ll feel like you’re inside the flowing spring itself, transported back to simpler times before super theme parks and super highways. And there’s so much more to see and do inside this stunningly beautiful 538-acre park. There’s Buccaneer Bay, Florida’s only spring-fed waterpark, with a sandy white beach, swimming area, and 4 waterslides for thrill seekers of all ages. Hop on board a relaxing River Boat Cruise and experience the natural splendor of Florida’s wildlife, flora, and fauna, or rent a kayak or canoe and set off on your own adventure. Take in our entertaining and educational Animal Show and get up close to native wildlife like alligators, snakes, and exotic birds. Come to Weeki Wachee Springs State Park and see a delightful side of Florida lore where dreams really do come true.

This place is pretty cool. 13 buck to get in, and you get a mermaid show that's pretty awesome. A boat ride, which, well, was glad it was free. Lol. And a Ranger talk with multiple animals. And, it was funny and educational. There are peacocks everywhere and even saw an albino one. You can swim in a small section that is roped off for swimmers. During the summer months, the waterpark is open. (Also included in the 13 bucks). Can't wait to go back for that! There is a beach with sun chairs. A gift shop. And a restaurant. I LOVE this place!
