The last couple of roads getting into the campground were VERY narrow. The last 1 ½ miles is a 2 lane road with swamp on both sides for much of the length of the road. The lanes were only about 6 ft. wide, so our 8 ft. wide 5th wheel took up part of the lane for on- coming traffic. Luckily we didn’t meet other vehicles because one of us would have had to back out of the winding road. These roads leading into the campground are enough to make us very hesitant to return. I'm not sure what we would have done if we had met any traffic.
The staff in this campground were very nice and welcoming. We were there during December and the campground was nicely decorated.
The campground was lovely. There were trees surrounding the campground, with a pond in the middle. Most of the campsites backed up to the pond. Sites are very reasonable in size. There was plenty of room in the site for the truck, 5th wheel and jeep. The campground easily handles big rigs.
There are asphalt roads through the campground. Each camp site had gravel area for RV. Each site has a concrete patio with a nice picnic table. There is well maintained grass between the sites. Sites are all very level. Pool was closed because of the time of year—but it looked like a nice pool area.
Good Verizon coverage. Easy to get DirecTV satellite.
This campground offers a very quiet, pretty place to relax. If the road getting to the campground were better (wider) I would not hesitate recommending it. Some campers may not be bothered by the road leading to the campground. Towing a vehicle behind would make it hard to impossible to back up--so we are more cautious.

We found this campground on Campendium. We were looking for a campground near the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We could not find any availability in the Kitty Hawk, Nags Head area. North River campground is not close to anything really you must drive at least 45min to an hour to reach the Outer Banks. That being said we did enjoy the campground. The campground was not crowded while we were there. They have well kept grounds and a lake that you can fish in (catch and release). We had full hook ups and cable. The wifi was fair, we have our own hotspot so we were able to watch TV and do things on the computer most of the time. If you wanted a pizza or wings they had items available. The campground has a laundry room with 5 washer and 4 dryers which was convenient. They have a motel and cabins and studio apartments on site everything was neat and clean. The site we had was gravel with a concrete pad with a nice picnic table. No problem parking plenty of space. As I stated before the campground is in the middle of nowhere so we were very surprised at how nice it was when you finally get to the campground. I know some people complain about the different fees for things but is all spelled on their website so it should not be a surprise. The pool was small but we saw families and individuals enjoying it on a daily basis. All in all I think this campground is a good place for families and couples. I recommend it.

Worst thing=out in the boonies, not near attractions.
Good things= clean neat park with paved roads and spacious sites. Lawns well taken care of, pretty lake. Loved the stay!

OBX was flooded. North River Campground is less than 30 minutes away from Kitty Hawk. No flooding. It is away from things but it’s a great park. The owners work here and are great! Great WiFi. Definitely coming back!

Only spent one night on this trip but would definitely stay here again the next time through. The campground is off the beaten path and away from roads and residential areas. There are some long term campers but they were in a separate area from us. The sites are all situated around a small lake and have level sites with gravel and a concrete pad with a picnic table and room for chairs. The park was very clean and kept up nice. I believe all sites have FHU and it all worked well for us. There is also good WiFi, volleyball and horseshoe pit, small playground for the kids and paddle boats in the pond/lake. Laundry facility is clean with several machines. Added bonus is the access to propane to fill your bottles or RV and a small store. Some folks have commented on the narrow paved road coming into the park… yes, the last mile is very narrow, but there’s not much traffic going in and out.

We love the peace and quiet here plus the campground is beautiful. There is a 5 ac pond and the campsites sit along the outside edge. It is Sept 9 and the ground between the pond and sites is very wet. I'm not walking in it, just saying. That said the road allows for easy parking on the sites. The sites are in pairs with room for 2 campers back to back, then ample room to the next 2 sites. Strange but it works I guess. The wifi doesn't work at the sites. You pay 5 to use a fire ring and they give you one bundle of wood. Check in was friendly and there is an escort to the site with back in help. The place is gated.
