We made this reservation through VRBO/HomeAway. My husband and three young kids and I arrived tired around 5pm. We stepped into the house and were immediately repulsed.
The house has a terrible odor, was not cleaned prior to our arrival (drips down cabinets, hadn't been dusted in months, sticky floor, dead bugs all over the window sills, I don't think windows had been cleaned in years...). There were walls with unfinished drywall, holes in the ceiling and walls, including holes in the walls next to electrical outlets - which is a violation of building code!! There were closets without doors and mouse traps in the kitchen. The bar stools had rips in them and kitchen cabinets were missing hardware. The outside light bulbs were missing and the landscaping was completely overgrown. Overall, it was a DUMP! It was so gross we immediately contacted the owner to cancel.
We left immediately and had to find a hotel to stay in for the night and ended up shortening our vacation and heading home the next day. It was the worse vacation experience I have ever had and my kids were so disappointed.
The owner would not refund us our money because our cancellation was outside of the cancellation policy. He said he would relist the property for that week and reimburse if he was able to rebook, but then he took the listing down that week so no one even had an opportunity to book it. I tried on multiple occasions to get my money back but he would not reply to my requests.
Even though I paid full price for this property and never received a refund, I was not able to review the property on HomeAway/VRBO since I cancelled my reservation. So I was happy to see I could have the opportunity to review it here.
