The majority of sites that I visited were spacious and flat with a thick gravel base. good water pressure. A good majority of the sites are spread out which gives you a good deal of privacy, of course, there are some that are grouped together in case you want to camp with friends.

This is my favorite campground to unwind and feel safe as a senior woman traveling alone. It's so beautiful here and the staff is excellent! One draw back IT SHOULD BE OPEN YEAR AROUND as it closes Labor Day 😔

Stayed here midweek and campground was pretty empty. Our site was a pull through and well laid out. We had water views on both side of the camper. Warning, the turnarounds at the end of the loops are pretty small. Our GMC 3500 has a big turning radius and when pulling our 35' 5th wheel we had to use extra caution. Glad I was not any longer. Getting level was a chore. We had to use all 4 of out 2x6 boards on one side. Did not use bathrooms.

The third COE we have stayed at on J. Strom Thurmond dam. (Basically we spend a week at each cos of limited availability) We stayed in GA and SC sides of the lake and two out of three have great cell coverage on ATT and Verizon - this one is great in that regard. Guess it can vary from site to site , so check it out. ( we were in #21) Great walks, also beaches and boat ramps. Definitely will come back to these delightful COE.
We did have some ants come aboard, possibly due to some serious storms and water pooling at camp site

This is a very nice COE campground with a long peninsula reaching out into Storm Thurmond Reservoir. Site 32 is among the nicest but most are waterfront with large, gravel, well appointed, well maintained, water and electric sites. Unfortunately, this week, many people left early due to swarms of tiny black ants. Im not sure of the type but if they are a variety called “crazy ants” they can destroy your electronics. When my car would not start, I got concerned. Turns out it was a bad battery. They got in the trailer and the car and were only kept at bay with spectracide sprayed on the trailer and the car and “deep woods off”sprayed on the inside of the trailer, in the trash can, and in each trash bag. “Off”will melt plastic so use care. Finally I sprayed the tires and rolled forward a half turn. I love a challenge. Stop at the Dollar General just down the road, on the way in, and get the bug spray. They happily stock large quantities for the campers here. Or just go somewhere else. There are several other nice COE campgrounds on the lake.

Beautiful CoE campground. Very quiet. Almost all of the sites are on the water. It is a very out of the way campground, so not too busy. Don’t forget to bring everything you need with you. It is a long way to the closest town.

We have stayed all around this site, so glad to have had a chance to stay here. Its a large site with good views. We did have a problem with ants even though we sprayed and put out comet and had ant hotels in my cabinets those worked for the cabinets but woke up every morning with a trail of ants to my dogs food dish. I did find that the bathroom didn't have soap this time. It was fun camping in an area we've camped before and seeing the same people we camped with in 2019. Darlene and Stan are very nice. We did have rounds of bad storms and Darlene came around to warn us and give us instructions of what to do if it got real bad. We have always been happy with this campground. We will be back in Sept. for a final trip for the year.

We spent 4 weeknights at Modoc in late May. We had our section of the campground all to ourselves. It was great. Fishing was good water was warm. We enjoyed it enough we never left the site except to walk around.

Lots of ants! Bring powder or a spray for any contact points with the ground.
Site 30 is not as treed as the others but you have the entire point to yourself.
It can get windy in the summer as the heat creates summer thunderstorms.
Good location near Augusta, GA. We avoid crossing Atlanta at all costs and this makes a good stop on our way to I-26
