“your Savannah escape”
Skidaway Island State Park
It’s 20 minutes outside of Savannah, and beautiful. The spanish moss hanging in the trees creates a beautiful canopy, and there are amazing walking and biking trails where you can see a lot of historical artifacts and battlegrounds.
Warning: Rather pricey for camping:
3 Camper Cabins ($135)
• 87 Campsites ($26–$45)
• 3 Pioneer Campgrounds ($40; groups of 10+ only)
• 5 Picnic Shelters ($35)
• Group Shelter (seats 150, $150–$300)
Very pleasant and peaceful. Staff friendly. RV campsites are pullthroughs and quite spacious. Pretty private too. Fire pit and picnic table. Nice walking trails.
We bopped in for just one night of tent camping. Standard state park with close campgrounds row by row, despite this, we were pretty far from our neighbor with nice foliage between sites. It was a Saturday night and VERY quiet. Bathrooms/showers were updated, clean, but poor design and little place to set your dry items. Campsites were very clean and we had no issues with insects or animals. Would definitely stay here again. All Georgia State Parks are pretty expensive at $30/night for tent sites.
Official description is pretty good. For non-campers, admission is $5 per car. Several flat loop trails, none of which are all that long, make for an easy family excursion. Trails can also be combined for around a 6 mile hike that winds through wooded and open marshy areas. There's plenty of shade along the trails and it was pretty still during our morning trip to the park, so there were pockets of mosquitos.
There's a small gift shop, nature center with taxidermy of local wildlife, ground sloth exhibit, which includes a fully assembled skeleton that looks down on viewers, and a small room with live reptiles.
The playground looked very nice too.
