Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens

The Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens at the Historic Bamboo Farm is 51 acres of historic plants, ornamental gardens, lakes, farm buildings and pick-your-own berry fields. Once a USDA plant introduction station, today we are becoming a complete botanical garden: a horticultural showplace for residents and visitors to the Coastal Empire and Carolina Lowcountry. Way back when the property was a USDA plant introduction station, locals first affectionately dubbed us "The Bamboo Farm." Our previous name was Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens, used since March 1983 when the University of Georgia acquired the property. Today, we are the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens at the Historic Bamboo Farm. We'll likely just still be mentioned in conversation as "The Bamboo Farm" by our friends for many years to come. Located 10 miles southwest of historic downtown Savannah, Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens is also 19 miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean. It is in USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 8b, with an annual average minimum temperature of 15 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. On average, there are about 140 summer days with temperatures above 86 degrees.
