We stayed here for a week in late August with several other Airstream friends and found this to be a perfect RUSTIC state park for someone who enjoys being on a good sized lake with direct water access from your campsite. This is perfect for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddle-boarding and even power-boating. Bring your watercraft!
This is a very popular campground so make your reservations early!
In general the sites are well screened from each other and offer typical "state park" levels of separation. Some of the sites are a bit tight in terms of fitting a big rig due to vegetation and big trees. If your rig is longer than 28 feet or so, pay attention to this when you reserve your site. This is not a state park to play the odds that your 35 footer will fit in a site designated as a 30 foot maximum length.
This is a large park with over 300 sites and most of them are along the main campground road that gets a lot of campground traffic from your fellow campers (especially on weekends.) We were on the A loop which is a spur off the main road and had a lot less traffic. I would definitely recommend the A loop or sites near the rear entrance to the park (sites #200 or higher) if you want less traffic by your site.
An enthusiastic regular camper at this park has prepared an amazingly extensive web site about this campground, things to do and site-specific information (including ratings for each site.) I highly recommend that you consult this site before you book into this campground: http://fishcreekpond.com/
In typical New York State Park fashion, the sites are completely un-serviced. There are water spigots located every few sites so chances are that a long hose will reach for filling your tanks. Some spigots are threaded but many are not. A water thief is a handy device to have in any state park.
The sites are generally shaded so don't expect anywhere maximum output from your solar array in this campground. Be prepared for an annoying amount of generators including amazingly enough those noisy contractor generators. I would have given this campground 5 stars if it weren't for the number of people who exercised their "right" to run their noisy contractor generator continuously during the generator hours.
There are restrooms throughout the campground. However, there is only one shower building way in the back of the campground by the dump station. I found this to be totally unacceptable for the tent campers who had to get in their cars to drive to the shower room. I would not stay here in a tent for this very reason. However, we never use campground shower facilities preferring our own facilities so this does not weigh in the rating.
The dump station was capable of handling three rigs simultaneously and was a breeze to use.

Fish Creek Pond is part of the New York State Campground system. I had this campground on my list of "late season campgrounds" for our cross country road trip. We ended up staying on October 17, 2016 a Monday without reservations. We did not have many neighbors, but there were a handful of campers and a tent camper. We pulled in late and there were some instructions for late arrivals/no reservations on the kiosk. We found a site (many were closed due to restoration). Our site (48 I think?) had a concrete pad which allowed us to set up the trailer easily. The nearby bathrooms were lit all night and actually heated with hot water too. There were showers available in a different area, but I was unsure if they were still on. There is not much forest vegetation between the campsites, but a thick wooded forest immediately behind you (we had some great colors). Everyone had a lake view to look at. It looks like it would be very swimmable for warmer months (gently sloping sandy shore - wading for little kids). There are three dump stations available, recycling, trash. We cannot recall if we got cell or internet service out there. I'd stay here again but probably late season only. I bet summer is packed! When we went to pay in the morning, the kiosk guy said we were good to go and didn't need to pay. Not quite sure why! Maybe because late season + late arrival + early departure? Note we did not see campsites on the south or west end of the lake due to being closed off for the season.

We pulled into Fish Creek Pond and requested a site in the back of the park based on Bob's previous review. Since we were early in the season, the campground was quiet and several sites were available. The camp host gave us three recommendations we were able to choose from. Site 244 was a large, level size for our 30' Airstream, directly across from the restroom.
No cell service available but could pull in emails (slowly) and had ability to text. Mosquitoes were the norm but didn't dampen our adventure. There is a small grocery store nearby. Day trips included to the towns of Lake Saranac and Lake Placid, which is filled with Olympic history and a great indie bookstore. History buff? Don't miss John Brown's Farm in Lake Placid.

I believe that every site has a view of the lake. We were in the center section of A loop and had a gorgeous view out our side windows. The campground is covered in tall mature tress and lake water access is easy throughout the park.
Sites do not have hook ups. There is a dump station in the middle of the park. I believe that is also the only refuge station as well. Recycling is also located at the refuge station.
The sites basically have a number and you figure out where and how to park your vehicles. Some are level, others not so much. If your planning on using solar, it's a challenge. Not much open sky.
The road around the park is a zoo. It's basically one lane with two way traffic. Add to the mix a huge firewood truck and ice truck, that come through twice a day, and it can become challenging driving your rig through the park.
The bathrooms in A loop are very rustic and not in a good way. Not sure if other facilities in the campground are better.
We stayed here at the end of June and it was cold. 50 at night and mid 60s during the day. I think it rained some every day. Just come prepared.

We had read about this campground from other members of Campendium and we decided to go there ourselves.
It was early June but the weather was just perfect, warm days and cool nights. Every site is waterfront, some a bit better than others. Our site was terrific as Paula wanted to see the sun rise over the water. You can achieve any type of sunrise or sunset as the sites go completely around the ponds. These are big ponds and link up to the chain of lakes and ponds of Saranac Lake region. It is a great paddling area and I recommend checking out St. Regis Outfitters. The mosquitos were abundant but a little smoke from a fire will keep them in check.
No hookups. Fresh water stations everywhere and bath houses well maintained. Showers were overly hot as we seemed to be the only ones using them at the time. Excellent campground and it earned our praise.

This is a HUGE state park campground with 355 sites (although a number of them were being restored when we were there). Most of the sites are on the lake; some have more of a direct view while others have a filtered view through the trees. The sites are very close together and some have trees to provide privacy, but many do not. We were fortunate to have an empty site on either side of us, otherwise it would have felt very crowded. Site 27 did not have an obvious “driveway” and it looks like the last rainfall caused the person in this site to get stuck in the mud as tire tracks remained. The sites are also littered with pinecones and tree roots, so you must be cautious not to trip on them. The bathrooms are clean but small and don’t have air dryers, hooks, or garbage receptacles. The showers had been shut down for the season, but we received a phone call in advance letting us know of this and the alternative available showers in a nearby park. There is one garbage/recycling area in the park. There is a paved roadway that goes all the way around Fish Creek Pond and Square Pond, making it good for bicycling or walking. Nice amphitheater. I also saw basketball and volleyball nets plus a very small swing set.

Fish Creek has been a favorite for many years. The sites are 95% on the water with great views from all we have stayed at. If you know how to camp without power and hookups this is an awesome choice. Water is easy to come by throughout the park and many of the sites are very large, others not so much but still larger than most private campgrounds. The roadway is a little narrow in some areas but we have never had any problems. The park is near Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and other beautiful towns with lots to do. If you like to paddle, hike or bike this is your place.

Very large campground. Sites are almost all right on the lake. Sites vary in size with some quite large and others closer together. Restroom are old but clean and very functional. Shower rooms work very well. Surprisingly good cell service. Large bike path. Close to both Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake. No services at the sites but potable water convenient. All in all, a very pretty campground.

I camped here 50 years ago as a child, 18 years ago with our children and this most recent visit did not disappoint. Almost all sites are on the water, as was ours. We enjoyed having kayaking an fishing just a few short yards from our doorstep!
No hookups but there is water available and the dumpstation is beautiful!
I did not use the bath house.
There is plenty to do right at the campground, biking, walking or running the 5 mile loop around the park/campground is beautiful. We also took a trip into Saranac Lake and hiked Mount Baker steep but only an hour or less to the top! While in town, we also visited
The Saranac Laboratory Museum. Well worth the $7!
We had no internet but were able to make calls and text.
All in all a great place to spend time!

Some sites are a little close together, but not too bad. Overall beautiful area, really enjoyed being right on the water. T-Mobile coverage was 0-2 bars of LTE; we had 1 bar at site 113 facing south. Site was level not requiring any blocks, but some sites not so much. We would definitely stay here again.
