“Check out the historic Lighthouse”
Winter Island Marine Park is located on the former site of Air Station Salem Coast Guard Base. It's a marine recreational park open to the public. The park takes up the southern portion of the peninsula. The main attractions of the park are the historic Fort Pickering, the Fort Pickering Lighthouse, Salem Harbor, a boat launching ramp, and the former Coast Guard seaplane hangar and barracks. Fort Pickering is listed separately on the National Register of Historic Places.
One of my favorite places in the Salem area. It is about $10 per car (free to residents) they will stop you at the front gates. They do offer camping and RVing on the island as well. The entrances to the fort under the certain portions of the island are locked and have been for as long as I can remember so just be aware of that as well. The only real downside to this area is the power plant that is right next to the island. Overall its a great place to spend a beach day.
A great place to stay when camping in the Salem area. I'd recommend the Safari field because the other sites are in a busy parking lot for the boat ramp. The bathrooms were terrible. The beach is good and the location of the park is excellent.
Just love the place. Bad, no on site dump, rest rooms are OLD. Good your on the beach and can walk or bike to Old down town. Your next to the local train to Boston and did I say your on the beach in Salem MASS. If your driving your class c or a route plan. The roads are small.
Very nice place. My wife an I just left a couple days ago. The island has some history, is well kept, a few trails, nice views and friendly staff. Free dump (offsite just down the street). We will be back when we are in the area.
This was a really cute and quaint park to stop by in Salem! Quick to get to and easy to get up close to the lighthouse and walk around. Beautiful scene!
