“also referred to as the First Confederate Memorial”
Commemorates residents of Hampshire County who died during the American Civil War while fighting for the Confederate States of America. Evergreen wreaths and a rope of that same material adorned the Monument on June 1st of each year, placed there by members of the Association. The graves of the men who gave their lives to the cause of Southern Rights were decorated with evergreen wreaths.
Can't say I'm a big fan of a random Confederate memorial, and the language on it isn't exactly PC these days, but the age of the cemetery do make it interesting. If you're a war buff or cemetery person, stop by. Can't say I'd add this place to my trip again.
