“right along the Rock River”
The "Rockmen Guardians", who guard the town of Rockford, Ill. (naturally) were made of granite boulders in 1987 by sculptor Terese Agnew. We'd want them on our side in a fight. These are statues made of rock, affectionately known as the "Rock Men." They are right along the Rock River in Rockford. Really neat artwork that is a bit bizarre.
We had a hard time finding these guys, but don't worry, I'll tell ya how to get there. Once you turn into the Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens, park anywhere and go down to the river/walking path and turn left. They are located roughly 1/4 mile down. The only downside is there is no information about these guys at the actual location. So if you didn't know what these guys were originally, you'd be wondering why these rock guys are just standing here. I recommend exploring the N.C.G. if you get the chance. We didn't go into the green house, but the gardens are gorgeous and it's a nice place to stop and eat lunch if you're road tripping or to have a picnic.
Fun to check out if you have a second! Tricky to find...past the greenhouse, tucked by the water.
AWESOME!!!
Def worth the quick stop.
A great stop right off of an awesome Riverwalk. Highly recommend stopping for a picnic or a good long leg stretch. Near a lovely conservatory and garden just a few yards away and it all makes for a great stop.
