We have family and friends in the area and have stayed south of Charlotte in every campground available. This is the best place. No alcohol but it was there. Sadly, it looks like there are fulltime families living there in a few sites, tenting or in trailers. We were there before the time restriction required moving out of the campground for a night in order to stay longer than 14 days. There is a lot of traffic since it's on the lake and there's a boat ramp. Restrooms and showers were clean. The best thing is there are no sites that have sheds or ugly landscaping since it's a county park. Felt very safe and it was easy to launch our kayaks. It is remote. About 25 miles from South Charlotte.

We had to be in the area for work at the nuclear plant nearby, but we couldn’t have had a better place to stay. This is a very well-kept and popular county park with people who camp here and plenty people who don’t. We made reservations online. I have to mention there is a 14-day stay limit. We had to arrive earlier than originally planned, so we had to find a different site for a couple nights before our original reservation. The first site was on the first loop of the park and had lake views. It was open and sunny, but I really liked it. The second was on the 4th loop back in the trees. It was more private, shady and the sites were a little more spacious. It is all up to what you want in a campsite. I will have to mention that our site 61 was backed up to the entry road with not enough tree separation to kill the noise of all the big trucks carrying rvs and boats. I would pick the other side of the loop if I were here again. The nice thing about the reserve America system is that you get to see a picture of the site when choosing. Some are more level than others, but I would say the majority are really good.
There is a gate with a code at night which closes at dark. There are nice heated bathrooms and bathhouse, a jungle gym, and a boat launch. No alcohol, but we don’t anyway. We will definitely return when in the area again. I think it’s a gem of a county park and close to everything one could shop for.

This is a great place to stay; it has a lakefront, swimming, boat launching, playground, picnic tables with grills, fishing, a bathhouse, and picnic shelters. Campsites # 31 - 71 are heavily wooded, so lots of shade but no satellite access. Sites # 1 - 30 are near the waterfront and have a mix of shaded and open sky. Most sites are dirt (some gravel, but not much) and many are very un-level. If you need a level site, be sure to call them! There were lots of big rigs when I was there. All sites are FHU, with a mix of 50/30/20 amp and 30/20 amp. TV reception was great. WiFi was very poor, and cell signal varied from 3 bars to 1 bar (unboosted.) Pets are allowed, as are golf carts. The campground roads may be difficult for big rigs.
The website says that the park will be closing in September, 2023, for extensive repairs, which are sorely needed.

The RV area of the park gives you the option of if you want to be shaded by trees or be more out in the open. All the hook ups were good with gravel pads. Lots of cardinals to view. We had a pull through spot that had plenty of room. The rounded dock at the lake is beautifully constructed with swings, room to fish, and to take a refreshing walk. They have a kayak and boat launch. There is a basketball court, playground, a volleyball net, and lots of areas to have a picnic or get together. We can’t wait to see what improvements they make to this park when they close for renovations. I think the biggest obstacle is getting into the park during the weekend since this is a very popular place. The road leading to the park gets very backed up and it may take some time to get through.

We got the last sure available on a Saturday night and it was a trick to get level. The campground is beautiful. It needs some work on the barriers and paving and they are closing for and extend time Sept of 2023 for a major renovation.

Great county sites have full hook ups, Little noisy with all the boaters coming and going but over all a great experience will be back many times.

We received a call from the park about a week before our reservation to let us know of the construction going on and offered to cancel our site with no charge. I very much appreciated the focus on the customer. I was aware of the construction ahead of time and we were just looking for a place to camp for the weekend. This place was exactly what we were looking for. Site 45 was pretty long and for the most part level although there are some sites that were cramped and un-level. I just wish the fire ring was in a different location since it was in the rear of the site. The back row of camping is very dark - the road could probably use a street light or something for safety.
