“Try the Chicago Dog!”

The dogs and fries alone were such a successful masterpiece that he took the other items off the menu and after a relocation in 1950 to River Grove Ill - Gene and Jude’s was in the making. The location in River Grove - although known as Gene and Jude’s - originally had no name on the outside of the building and was called River Road Hot Dogs by many locals. Great food is edible art! We work almost 24 hours a day in preparation alone to provide our loyal customers with what many believe is the best hot dog and fries in the country. We are absolutely dedicated to maintain the highest standards of quality in our food and strive to sustain the original Gene and Jude’s “experience”. As with most originals - we are often imitated but there is only one Gene and Jude’s.

Gene's & Jude's is considered by many to serve the best Chicago-style hot dog. The Chicago-style dog is simple, but delicious. it consists of an all-beef hotdog served in a steamed, poppy seed bun. It is then 'run through the garden.' That is, it is topped with tomato slices, celery salt, dill pickle spears, chopped white onions, green onion relish, sport peppers, and yellow mustard!

One of Chicago's numerous classic hot dog stands. Sure, it's out in the suburbs, but this place knows what's up. Gene and Jude's isn't renowned for their Chicago-style dog quite so much as they are for their double dog, which comes wrapped in their own hand-cut fries. It's a great place to stop, especially on your way to or from O'Hare.

Gene & Jude's is the place to get the best Chicago-style hot dog, bar none. They have quite an operation behind the counter - everything moves quickly, which is important because especially on weekends late at night the line will be out the door and into the parking lot. There are no tables - this is meant to be a "get your delicious dog and get out" establishment - although there is a sparse counter with a few stools if you insist on staying and watching the line of people ordering. They also have tamales...these I have never tried. Too busy filling my face full of incredible Chicago dog and stupendously greasy fries (which are stacked right on your hot dog and wrapped with it). You need to have the Gene & Jude's experience at least once. If you're from out of town and don't know what the Chicago dog is all about, this is the place to go. Oh...and don't ask for ketchup. They may not kick you out, but they may give you funny looks and you won't be getting ketchup packets. That's not how Chicagoans roll.
