The Poe Museum provides a retreat into early nineteenth century Richmond where Poe lived and worked. The museum features the life and career of Edgar Allan Poe by documenting his accomplishments with pictures, relics, and verse, and focusing on his many years in Richmond.
This was a great little stop on a trip up I95. The Poe Museum was a friendly and creepy little bit of fun, the courtyard amd Poe shrine are gorgeous too. When your done, head 2 blocks down to 17th street and make a right, The Halligan Grill is there, it has a neat firefighter theme and amazing food. Great hushpuppies!!! The combo was a perfect hour and a half break from the road.
As a fan of Poe’s life works I deeply enjoyed my visit here. It’s rather macabre and there’s two black cats that live at the museum who were super friendly. All the artifacts and stories inside the museum were great. Took my time to read everything spent about 45 minutes inside.
We stopped here for something to do. I have never read any of Poe’s work and knew very little about him. Get on the tour if you can. By far one of the best tour guides ‘Debbie’. De was passionate about what she did, super knowledgeable and she she draws you with with her stories and snippets of Poe’s work which she recites. She made the visit and made me want to actually read Poe’s work.
I'm a Poe fan, so this was great for me! It is, however, minutiae of his life and the people connected to it. If you are not an avid reader/curiosity seeker, it will likely not be a satisfying adventure. However! For those who are already intrigued/invested in the story and the author, I highly recommend this stop!
Great price and so cool!! We were here for 45 minutes. It is worth the trip for any Poe fan!!
