“Pristine and Peaceful Park”
Located in North Rapid City near the intersection of Maple and New York Streets is Rapid City's Xeriscaping Gardens. These gardens are a joint effort between the Bureau of Reclamation and the City of Rapid City. Hundreds of drought resistant perennial flowers and shrubs are designed in numerous beds along with Buffalo Grass walkways. These gardens demonstrate to property owners how to enhance a landscape using plants that are more drought resistant and require less water than many landscaping plants. Notice the stone work surrounding the gardens; it dates back to the WPA projects built in the late 1930's during this Nation's Great Depression.
