If you love good old traditional camping this’s the place for you! The park has a little for everyone… mini golf, playground, pool, fire pit in sites w/ bench, solid internet, and even laundry!
That said you get what you pay for as the rate’s higher than most, especially traveling from July to August! Their rates will continue to go up the closer it gets to Sturgis Rally (August 2nd-11th) beginning as early as 3/4 weeks prior to Sturgis!
We arrived to HTR late at night, we’d recommend you drive your non tow vehicle thru if possible and get a good sense of HTR’s layout!
The only thing that had us nervous was the pitch & roll driving from HTR’s highway entrance to our campsite L9. We hit a combination of 6 degrees pitch w/ 5 degrees roll @ more than 1 place! Once into parking site everything’s top notch!! So, one RV’r to the next we’d say be careful!
Great overall staff and Campground
We enjoyed HTR. Heads up, they do not offer discounts for monthly stays. They do offer discounts for weekly stays and have military and first responders discounts. Overall, we really liked it. But being full-timers, we needed to move for better monthly rates. $93 per night is after adjusted discount

The drawing factor to this campground is its proximity to Mt Rushmore, about a 20 minute drive. Also about 30 minutes from Custer State Park and amazing scenic drives through Black Hills National Forrest. Mystery Mountain Resort is a mix of cabins, RV sites, and tent camping. They have a small pool, playground, putt putt golf, horseshoes, and basketball court. The RV sites range from concrete pad, to gravel, and dirt. Ours was mostly dirt. The campground is immediately off Hwy 16, but the road noise did not bother us. The bathhouse was clean, and they had a nice laundry facility. All you can eat pancake breakfast (nothing to write home about) and a small camp shop. It was a decent place to stay, but there are many choices in this area.

This was a lay over stop so it served that purpose.
The Pros:
* This campground had lots to offer in the way of campsites, cabins, tenting options. So much to do for the kiddos if you have any!
* A large staff and they were all super helpful and friendly;
* It was close to major attractions (Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park, etc.);
* They offer a morning breakfast (for a fee) that was tasty!
The Cons:
* Right next to Hwy 16 so the road noise was noticeable;
* the campground is built on a hill so while the sites are mostly level, getting into the sites can be a challenge;
* The sites are extremely close to each other;
* very expensive but it is the peak tourist season.

This site should be for a camper van, not a travel trailer. Fire pit is right there in front of the door. Can’t open awning due to a tree and not a safe place to park the tow vehicle. Long ways to showers. If we could get our money back we would leave.

Large easily accessible site. Well maintained wooded lots. Susan called on our arrival day to make sure we had no questions and gave us help with directions. Very convenient to Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Sylvan Lake and Badlands. Highly recommended as a nice quiet base camp.

Great facility with sites tucked into the pine forest along the highway above Rapid City. Nearby campgrounds were all parking lots with little to no shade. Sites had water, electric, and sewer hookups. Elevation changes made for good secluded sites despite the close spacing. Cell and WiFi service were both very good.
Hillside location made it slightly more challenging to back into spots.

Nice spaced out campground off the highway. All the campgrounds in this area are off the highway but this one was spaced out more and had lots of trees. Water pressure in showers was nice and we always had hot water.

Needed an RV park for work and gave them a call. Mary answered the phone and seemed very greedy. I needed 30 amp electric only, she kept pushing 50 amp. The rate I would have to pay would be the FULL DAILY rate even though they were at 25% capacity. Yep, I had driven by after calling. Wow!

While the site was ok, we drug getting out up a hill with a sharp turn. On a hillside in the trees, so beautiful-just not easy to park. Also, not too close to anything. Wish we had been closer to Mt Rushmore and area. Wi-Fi wasn’t great. No place for dogs other than the dirt roads between RVs or the front grass. Need a dog park for larger dogs. On the main highway, so loud.
