Hampton Inn & Suites Atlantic Beach

This was not one of my favorite Hampton's I've stayed at, and there were several reasons for that. We are Diamond Members and travel all over the country. One of the main reasons we came to this hotel was because online they hype it up that there's a great ocean view. We called before booking to make sure we could have an ocean view room. The girl we spoke with made it sound like the ocean was close...just across the street, and with an "easy" handicap parking spot to the beach. I've never seen something noted as handicap where you have to park across the street, cross a busy road, and walk a ways carrying beach equipment, and that be handicap friendly. We had to look for other beach access points, and didn't find one until the 3rd day of our stay. Also, I've never been to an ocean/beach town where it's so hard to get to or see the ocean. There are lots of access points, (overgrown w/trees and sand dunes) but most are not handicap friendly (have lots of steps and a ways to walk for a handicap person.) For miles and miles driving on the main road parallel to the ocean, and you can hardly see it, so bizarre! It was close to the ocean, but might of been miles away with the difficulty in accessing the ocean and lack of good views. Most ocean view rooms we've been to have a balcony where you not only can enjoy your ocean view, but also you can hear it. The windows did not open, and there was no balcony. The room was clean, but outdated. We like to go swimming/exercising (laps, jogging, squats, etc.) in the pool. The pool was so busy the entire 6 day/5 night stay that we were there, so we didn't get to use it one time! The pool seems rather small for the amount of guests that were in the hotel. As a Diamond Member (supposed to get special treatment) when I told the manager and suggested they have an adult swim hour or Diamond Member hour, she just said that we should expect it to be busy coming on a holiday week. One of the worst things that we experienced was during breakfast. We had omelettes that the eggs were not cooked and they tasted horrible. We ended up throwing them away and ate outside of the hotel for breakfast, incurring an extra expense. When we told the manager this, she acted shocked someone was complaining about their breakfast cause she said they usually get compliments on how good their breakfast is. It seems the manager had a pattern of denying accountability for any wrongdoing. We used HH Honors points to book, and it was way overpriced for what you get, even under ideal circumstances (less people, pool available, no runny egg omelettes breakfast, etc.) When we returned home, I contacted the manager to give her a chance to make it right. I asked for half of my points back because of all the inconveniences we incurred. Some would have asked for 100% back. She only gave 1/4 of my points back in an attempt to appease me. I didn't calle corporate, but I am making people aware of how I was treated in an effort to protect them from making the same mistake I made. There is supposed to be a 100% Hampton Guarantee where they make sure you are 100% happy. Well I'm not happy, and I am a Diamond Member, so that's false advertisement. Save the disappointment and go to the Doubletree on the beach to use your points/spend your money!
