Delicious Pennsylvania Dutch pies, sticky buns and other amazingly delicious baked goods? The Reading Terminal Market, established in 1892 at 12th and Arch Streets, is the nation’s oldest continuously operating farmers’ market. Through its long and interesting history , it has seen times both good and bad, but has emerged in the 21st century as one of the greatest public markets in the country. When you visit the market, you can enjoy eating virtually every type of cuisine, from sublime soul food and exquisite Asian and Middle Eastern dishes to authentic Philly Cheesesteaks and traditional Pennsylvania Dutch fare — all available from largely family-run stands.
There are so many different stands to be had within Reading Terminal Market. If you get there early, you can get some grocery shopping in, grab a coffee and then sit for an amazing bite at Pearl's Oyster Bar. It doesn't sound like it should have breakfast food, but OH MY, it has breakfast food. I seriously recommend taking a day off your diet while here and trying the french toast. It's UNREAL. Thick slices of menonite baked fresh bread and covered with whipped cream and powdered sugar. You can get specials with any variety of other things on them too.
Do it! and grab a pastry on the way out from any of the shops. It's ALL fresh!
I love places like this. They've got all kinds of vendors selling things. Mostly food, but some houseware type things and other non-edibles. Good place to visit to kill some time if it's a rainy day. ALSO this is where you'll find DiNic's and their famed roast pork sandwich.
So many different things to explore. Food, shopping, and more. Don't recommend if you have a seafood allergy that is airborne because my sister had an allergic reaction here but we're not sure which shop it was from. Our corndog was fantastic. There are just unlimited food options and they are all good. It's a fun way to feel the spirit of the city too!
Must be on your Philly list. All kinds of variety. All kinds of temptations, desserts, candy, fresh meat- seafood and fish, almost anything you can think of!
Love this place! There's tons of great food shopping and eateries.
One of the reasons I love Philly is because it's approachable enough to hit all the MUST SEE locations in a few days. Reading Terminal Market is definitely one of them. The unique mix of tourists and people actually shopping here on the weekend. I had some delish coffee here.
