“the site where what would become the United States Marine Corps”
Tun Tavern was a tavern and brewery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which served as a founding or early meeting place for a number of notable groups. It is traditionally regarded as the site where what would become the United States Marine Corps held its first recruitment drive during the American Revolution.[1] It is also regarded as one of the "birthplaces of Masonic teachings in America.
NOT Tun Tavern. This is City Tavern on the waterfront in Philadelphia. Although a very good restaurant in its time, it is no longer open as of fall 2020. Chef Staib had a wonderful menu and I enjoyed it every time. They are looking to reopen it says the owners, The National Park Service in 2022 sometime but as a former Marine, I can tell you that this is NOT Tun Tavern. There is a sign down the road a bit towards the memorials, which I highly encourage all to see, that details the approx whereabouts of Tun Tavern and its legendary birthplace of the United States Marine Corps...ooh-rah.
