“home to satanic worship!”
Also known by its less entertaining name, Boston Ohio, was abandoned in 1974, when the government used their right of eminent domain to get permission to create a national park where Boston stood. Plans for the park fell through and there began to be confusion about why the area was cleared out in the first place. Rumors began to circulate that the government was covering up an oil spill that had happened in the area. Now, it’s said to be haunted and home to satanic worship.
The 'road to hell' is no longer barricaded and many of the houses and vehicles in the haunted legends have been moved or demolished to make way for hiking paths. The place seems to be mostly populated and the locals didn't appear to be that friendly toward outsiders though it looks like they are in the process of converting into a hiking and more touristy area.
Did a lot of research on our way here, sad history of the town being bought by the government to create a national park. It is really beautiful there now, but none of the ‘Helltown’ legend stuff is there at all. Just nature, ski resort, preserved farm house hotel, etc.
This place does exist, it's just little difficult to find. As teenagers, we used to go there for a thrill. We found the "satanic" church and I recall seeing a ghostly apparition in the rear view mirror which really freaked us out.
This place does not exist, we went there to find it, it's nowhere to be found.
I have lived nearby my whole life, worked in so called helltown 30 years ago, my husband has more recently, there is nothing strange about it, nothing spooky or ghostly, there are many bike riders in the summer months, hiking, a couple of restaurants, a nearby ski resort, it's just a small town, wherever this whole helltown thing came from I have no idea but if you are looking for something spooky you would be wasting your time, I have spent a lot of time here in Peninsula, there is nothing out of the ordinary, it is a nice area though.
