“A Historic Part of Paterson”

This place is on private property. Listing for informational purposes only. Please do not visit without express permission from the land owner. The historic Hinchliffe Stadium was completed in 1932. It was used by the Negro League and home, for over a decade, to the New York Black Yankees. It also hosted venue for boxing, football and ‘midget’ car racing. During its time Abbott and Costello, the Andrews Sisters and Duke Ellington performed here. Eventually it became to be used by the public schools and the city but fell into disrepair over time and was closed in 1997. When the Friends of Hinchliffe Stadium, a non-profit group, tried to have it put on the National Register of Historic places in 2004, it was denied being only ‘locally significant’. It was put on the list of National Historic Landmarks in March of 2013. It is located in Paterson, New Jersey. Efforts are under way to receive and grow funding for the renovation and restoration of this excellent piece of history.  More at http://www.abandonedplaygrounds.com/hinchliffe-stadium-the-abandoned-10000-seat-baseball-stadium/
