The park is very scenic and you get to camp right in the middle of the rocks. If you can get one of the sites above the main loop in Arch you will be rewarded with a cozy private spot, but even the ones in the main loop are nicely spaced. I also love that Nevada Parks are first come first served, meaning you can get yourself a spot as long as you get there early enough in the day. I wish other state parks would do the same.
The park itself has some great sights to see, the walk to the fire wave being the highlight. Just stunning rock formations, and beautiful colors that don't look real. Many of the hiking trails are sand, which can be tough going. But the views are worth the trudge!
The only reason we didn't stay longer was the lack of connectivity. We had Edge coverage with AT&T and an intermittent of 4G with Verizon when we used our booster, but nothing was good enough to sustain an internet connection of any kind or allow consistent phone calls.
The nearby town of Overton is a little lacking in facilities, but the supermarket was adequate and the library had fantastic WiFi which we used to catch up on stuff that we couldn't achieve while at the park.

I can see why parents love bringing their kids to this place. You park in one of the park's roomy campsites--all of which are first-come, first serve--and climb, scramble, duck and hide for hours. The rock is sticky and forgiving, and even boasts cave-like rooms. Easy hikes amidst sculpted rock formations abound throughout the park, and you can even hike from your campsite if adventurous. The hike to the Fire Wave (driving required to trailhead) was especially gorgeous.
The Arch Rock campsite was quiet-ish the weekend we stayed, though it did fill up by about 4pm on Friday and much earlier on Saturday. Finding sites during high season is a competitive proposition, so be prepared to snag one quickly. There's a dump station just outside of the campgrounds, and some of the (dry) campsites themselves had water spigots, though it didn't say anything about it being potable.
Our non-directional antenna couldn't grab usable cell signal, so I wouldn't try to work from here unless you have a directional or whatever the Currens use.

Valley of Fire is one of our favorite state parks. The scenery is simply stunning and the two campgrounds are well laid out and maintained. We prefer the Arch Rock Campground even though there are no hook-ups there. The sites are smaller and more intimate with many of them tucked in among the huge rock formations offering wonderful privacy. Tent campers will love it. We arrived around 10:00 AM on a Friday during spring break and were able to snag one of the few open spots. The ranger at the entrance station had advised us to look in Arch Rock first because there is more turn over in that campground. Good advice. Note: during our three day stay sites occasionally opened up but we never saw the "Campground Full" sign removed at any time so it pays to ignore the sign and drive in to check things out for yourself.
Arch Rock Campground offers clean vault toilets and water spigots throughout the campground. Atlatl Campground has flush toilets and showers. You can use the showers there, but you'll have to walk, bike or drive over to them from Arch Rock. Atlatl offers electric/water sites which are larger and quite nice (suitable for big rigs) but they lack the privacy and charm of the campsites in Arch Rock.

I stayed in the Arch Campground in later October. What a remarkable campground. Especially the upper loop that has camp sites nestled in the red rocks. However getting a vehicle much larger than a van through this loop, or in the camp sites, would be difficult. The road was dirt and narrow. The lower loop was more open. The camp sites are back in or pull in. It is a first come and first serve campground. I arrived earlier in the day and was able to find a site without a problem. The site I had was fairly level. Most sites have a shade over the table. The water spigot did not work at my site, but there were spigots that did work in the campground. I look forward to staying here again. I did not have cell service on Verizon in the campground. I did have cell service at the east entrance.

We drove through Valley of Fire and decided to stay there in the campground. We drove through the Atlatl Rock Campground and decided we didn’t need RV hookups as we wanted more private camping... we went to the Arch Rock Campground and found a spot that was great! We just positioned our van so we didn’t see anyone! Dogs had to be on leashes but we took them on a lil nature walk away from the campground to Arch Rock and took photos. Great lil campground that only has 27 spots and only 10 dollars after you pay the 10 entry fee to the park.

VoF State Park is not an overly developed state park, which is great. The main drive through the park gets you to everything...the list is too long but the vistas are spectacular. Atlatl campground & Arch Rick campground are adjacent and share a water & dump station. The setting for Arch Rock CG is amazing. Most of the sites are tucked right under or between the red sandstone formations towering overhead. This is dry camping but many sites have a water supply nearby. Park entry is $10 but this applies to the $20 for overnight. Just note that on the payment envelope at the iron ranger - it's pretty well explained if you read the instructions on the bulletin board on the left. Sites 1-14 are on a loop. Sites 15-29 extend on a 1-way road between sites 6 &7 and are definitely worth checking out first. All sites are first come but I had no problem finding one on a Monday afternoon. Vault toilets, regular trash pickup, water and dump close by with spectacular scenery & hiking - it doesn't get much better. No AT&T but T-Mobile was fine with a booster.

This was a great camping spot to tour everything Valley of Fire has to offer. Superb location and clean site area. We arrived around 11am on a Friday and there were only two spots left in the entire park between Arch and Atlatl campsites during the first week of March. We 100% would have preferred to be in a less busy and more private area of the camp site but those spots were taken. However there are some really great and private areas that are available should we have arrived on a Thursday or earlier on a Friday.
The site was clean with clean restrooms and a camp host that was very active taking care of the busy site. No mater the the site you get, you'll be surrounded by awesome rock formations and awesome desert views. If we positioned our phones just right we'd receive minimal cell service and a very weak LTE with Verizon that would allow texts and emails to load periodically-- otherwise there was no service. Very dog friendly.
I would not pass up camping here if you're in the area.

March, 2021...This was our second time staying in this campground. We had no idea it had gotten this busy these last few years. Well now we know!
We dispersed right outside the west entrance and came in around 9:30 am to get a spot. When we saw # 2 vacant we just grabbed it and felt lucky.
There is a constant parade of cars and RV's ( going round and round the campground loops) looking for an empty spot starting around 7am and it only stops about dusk. People are getting so bold as to check your tag to see when your leaving and ask if they can put their tag under yours!...They even come right up to you asking when your leaving! When you're resting up from hiking or reading a book in your chair it is never peaceful here. We've never experienced anything like this in our decades of camping. This first come first serve is not working here anymore. After 3 days we couldn't wait to move on despite how we love Valley of Fire State Park.

This campground is nestled among the red sandstone formations of varying heights, with each rack face being its own beautiful sculpture. Everything appears well maintained, although I did not check out the vault toilets. I noticed the Ranger drive by periodically during my stay to check on bathrooms and waste bins. Mid-week in early January was not crowded and I had my pick of a number of spots, but lucked out in getting #24 which is very private and has its own backyard canyon. Campers who use solar to recharge should take site selection into account since many will have a lot of shade from the sandstone cliffs. I occasionally had 1 bar of unreliable and unstable signal with T-Mobile, but a few other areas of the park had better service.
