“mix of open meadows and wooded areas”
Paint Creek Dam Site Area, located on Paint Creek Lake, offers great opportunities for outdoor recreation in the Scioto area of southwestern Ohio. Visitors enjoy boating, fishing, camping, picnicking and rock climbing. The lake is situated among gently rolling hills, where a mix of open meadows and wooded areas cover the shoreline. A variety of songbirds and waterfowl can be found in the area. The campground is operated by the Ohio Department of State Parks and offers a wide variety of outdoor recreation activities, including mini and disc golf, a nature center and an amphitheater. Other activities on land include picnicking, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hunting and rock climbing. A swimming beach, summer nature programs, three boat ramps, a marina and boat rentals can all be found around the lake. In winter months, sledding and cross-country skiing are available. The Corps of Engineers downstream recreation area offers picnicking, a trail, a play area and rock climbing opportunities. Two access points to the stream provide kayaking and canoeing opportunities on the river. Paint Creek has long been a popular fishing stream, where white and black crappie, blue gill, smallmouth and spotted bass, rock bass, suckers, darters, channel catfish and saugeye are commonly found.

We stayed early in the week and so the campground was quiet and sparsely populated. The grounds are very well groomed and the pads are in good shape and level for the most part. However, quite a few sites are mounded and there could be a danger of stepping out of your camper and rolling down an incline. There seemed to be ample amounts of restrooms interspersed but, kind of dated and a bit on the rusty side. You can get satellite reception in about half of the sites and we could not get Verizon cell phone service.
A warning to those of you who might be coming from the north. My Garmin GPS had me entering on County Road 1 which has a 7’-3” railroad overpass and single lane. Fortunately, we caught the sign and entered from the south off of U.S Hwy. 50. We stayed three nights in a motor home.

We loved our stay at Paint Creek State Park. Everything was clean and quiet and relaxing. We had one of the new sites with the deck and had a really good time enjoying the surroundings. We have lived in Central Ohio all our lives and have just recently started camping to have the chance to get outside and enjoy nature and are finding hidden gems all over the state, Paint Creek being one. We fished at a neighboring park and they were really biting. We will absolutely be back!

Spots 115 and 116 are excellent. We stayed in a premium deck spot, 108, it was somewhat unlevel with a large drop-off from the pad on both sides. The fire ring is located on the opposite side of the door. Without the deck for the picnic table, the spot would not have space off the pad.
The roads were very tight for a travel trailer or Fifth Wheel of coming from US-35. I used RV safe GPS to avoid a low bridge but ended up on a 1 lane road with blind hills for a couple of miles.
Nice small camp store. 50-amp power was good. Shower, toilet and laundry facilities are available.
Our trip was not as relaxing as the group across from us had a party with loud music until after 2 a.m. and loud individuals until after 4a.m.
We were able to get T-Mobile 5G service but Verizon normally did not work.
Tip: The dump station before the camp store has a drinking water outlet. If you do not have one of the few sites with full hookups , fill your water tank there. There are other water stations throughout the park but there was a lot of traffic when we arrived. We missed the initial water station but were able to borrow an additional hose so that we could fill our tank.

Camped with another couple at 108 and 110. *Liked having the deck for the table. Not muddy with an overnight rain. *But, as another review stated, the fire ring is on the opposite side of the pad (for both sites). *Bathrooms very close, shower pretty close, **no handicapped access for either site. No ramps, only stairs. Really? *Pad was narrow and several edges with sudden drops. There was also an indentation that I kept tripping into near the table. Someone is going to twist their ankle there soon. *Length of trailer should have limits in most of the sites on that loop. Several people had to park on the road. *Site 116 was indeed lovely. Easily 3x the size of ours, great view of the lake. *Make sure you have your Buckeye card with you or they will charge full price. State driver's license is not enough to get the discount. This policy should be fixed. *Damn was interesting. Beach had plenty of parking, but sad on the beach side. Flat. Uninteresting. Porta-potties.

Paint creek is a gorgeous park. Grounds were well maintained. Some sites have a level pad and grassy area, some are NOT! Pick your site carefully otherwise you could be climbing a hill all day long. Bathrooms and showerhouse need overhauled. Some drains were plugged, shower handles missing, rusted hardware.
