It's a rest stop right off US 95 in Luning, NV (an unincorporated, very small town). The rest stop is in a 35 mile an hour zone, so traffic isn't flying by, but you still hear it.
Luning is literally in the middle of nowhere, so don't expect any nearby amenities. This spot is literally good only to stop and sleep. Nothing more. Expecting grand things, move on. There is a bathroom on site, though.
I was the only rig in the parking lot when I went to sleep but in the middle of the night I noticed several semis joined me, so apparently this is a popular place for trucks to stop for a bit.
I pulled off to the back side of the gravel lot to get out of the way.
Luning is a convenient stop along the highway, but that's about all it has going for it. The area is covered in trash and I couldn't help but feel bad for whoever lives in those dilapidated houses lining the streets.
The rest area has one men's and one women's restroom, which are cleaned at least daily. The parking lot isn't huge, and there are a lot of trucks who park for a few hours or more, so we parked in a flat-ish gravel lot next to the paved rest area. Another RV joined us in that area later. Highway noise didn't disturb our sleep.
We would stay here again for the convenient location, but wouldn't linger longer than necessary.
I stopped here overnight on my way to Death Valley, and although it's a fine place to overnight, I wouldn't stay here any longer than I had to. I parked in the gravel lot just north of the main parking area, and had the whole lot to myself. But right next door there were a constant stream of trucks coming and going (and idling loudly while parked there). So unless you sleep very soundly (or have a supply of earplugs—which I did), you may not get much shut-eye. Still, it's free, and convenient if you happen to pass through Luning at sunset. The toilet got cleaned in the morning before I left, and my guess is that happens every day.
We’ve been here several times. Sometimes to make lunch/dinner or sleep the night. There is a cute Trading Post across the street that advertises cold drinks and ice. Didn’t go in, but it’s nice to know it’s there. They have a sign saying their open until 6pm.
This is one of the dirtiest rest stops I've been by toilet paper all over toilet stopped up sinks filthy smells like s*** please our tax funds paid for this take care of them fix the toilet fixed the sink's clean it up it's only 2 stalls and one was out of order. A very busy rest stop.
