“world’s leading performing arts center”
Lincoln Center was envisioned as a major performing arts center that would develop and present the finest and brightest in all types of performing arts to a diverse audience drawn from all walks of life. Located in the heart of New York City on a 16-acre campus, it houses 11 prestigious cultural organizations including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Juilliard School, Lincoln Center Theater, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet, the New York Philharmonic, the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, the School of American Ballet, and Lincoln Center itself. Lincoln Center employs some 9,000 full-time, part-time, and contract workers. Each year, Lincoln Center welcomes 5 million visitors, 3.6 million performance attendees, and thousands of artists—and can seat 26,543 audience members at one time. Lincoln Center (Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts) serves three primary roles: world’s leading presenter of superb artistic programming, national leader in arts and education and community relations, and manager of the Lincoln Center campus. In addition, LCPA led a $1.2 billion campus renovation, completed in October 2012.
