“World Famous, Iconic Deli”
It would not have been possible for Katz’s Delicatessen to survive three depressions, numerous recessions and two World Wars if Katz’s wasn’t the best deli in NYC. Opened in 1888, Katz’s Deli has maintained the tradition of quality that made us a beloved deli among the immigrants who crowded into the Lower East Side one hundred years ago. Since then, generations have stood before the carver as he skillfully carves a pile of pastrami, turkey or corned beef. It’s the exceptional taste that has carried Katz’s name far beyond NYC. Over the last century, a lot has come and gone, but Katz’s Delicatessen is still where it was in 1888. Katz’s arguable serves the best ‘New York-style’ hot dog. A New York-style hot dog typically consists of a skinless, or naturally cased, all-beef hot dog. Said dog is then placed on a griddle and topped with sauerkraut, a smear of mustard, and optional sweet onions stewed in a tomato sauce. Katz's Deli in the movies: "Katz's was the site of Meg Ryan's famous fake orgasm scene in the 1989 romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally..., followed by Estelle Reiner's iconic line "I'll have what she's having"; the table at which Ryan and Billy Crystal sat is marked with a sign that says, "Where Harry met Sally...hope you have what she had!". It was the site of Johnny Depp's character meeting with an FBI contact in Donnie Brasco (1997). Katz's Deli is the site for a scene in Across the Universe (2007), in which one of the main characters reveals he has been drafted into the Vietnam War. Katz's appears in the movie Enchanted (2007) with Patrick Dempsey and Amy Adams. The deli appears in the 2007 film We Own the Night. Katz's appeared in the background of the claymation movie Mary and Max (2009), in most of Max's bus stop scenes. In the French film Nous York (2012), Manu Payet and Dree Hemingway visit Katz's, where Fred Austin greets them at their table."
THE BEST pastrami sandwich I have ever had, hands down. We knew we had to stop here while visiting NYC, but I wasn't prepared for how incredible this sandwich was. Absolutely packed with tender,... Read more
I received a birthday box containing various meets, pickles and seedless rye bread.. The rye bread was dense and had hardly any flavor of rye. It was almost the worse rye bread I have had. As far... Read more
