“NY's premier destination for Brazilian music”
S.O.B.’s, also known as Sounds of Brazil, is a live music venue in the lower Manhattan neighborhood of SoHo. It was opened by owner and director Larry Gold in June 1982. Gold opened the venue with the purpose of exposing the musical wealth and heritage of the Afro-Latino Diaspora to as many people as possible. True to its mission, it has become renowned as the premiere venue not only for World Music, but all genres, in New York City and the world over. SOBs is New York’s premier destination for Brazilian music & has been since its doors opened in 1982. Without the music and people of Brazil there is no SOBs. The clubs original meaning was 'Sounds Of Brazil' and was initially founded due to the absence of Brazilian music in the Metropolis. Over its 28+ year history, SOBs has been host to some of the most legendary acts in Brazilian music. With such talents as Seu Jorge, Chico Cesar, Jorge Ben Jor and Astrud Gilberto making the list, SOBs’ history of past performers spans the great spectrum of Brazilian genres. These artists have represented the rich and diverse musical culture of Brazil. In addition to highlighting such renowned artists, SOBs is also home to up and coming, breakthrough talents. By showcasing such new talents as Luisa Maita and Jair Oliveira, SOBs has continued to highlight the sounds of contemporary Brazilian music.
