Pace/MacGilI Gallery was founded in 1983 by Peter MacGilI, in collaboration with partners. Arne Glimcher of The Pace Gallery and Richard Solomon of Pace Prints and Pace Primitive.Since its inception, the gallery has established itself as one of the premier venues dealing in modern and contemporary photography, presenting over 200 exhibitions and publishing numerous exhibition catalogues. Pace/MacGilI Gallery strives to disseminate the work of its artists to museums, private collectors, and corporate collections around the world. The gallery has had the privilege of representing such masters of photography as Han'y Callahan, Robert Frank, Irving Penn,John Szarkowksi, Richard Avedon, William Christenben'y, Emmet Gowin, Josef Koudelka,Duane Michals, Richard Misrach, Nicholas Nixon, Judith Joy Ross, Fazal Sheikh, Frederick Sommer, JoAnn Verburg, and Henry Wessel. The gallery's affiliation with The Pace Gallery has also created close working relationships with, and representation of, Chuck Close, PaulGraham, Hai Bo, Michal Rovner, Lucas Samaras, Kiki Smith, and Hiroshi Sugimoto. The gallery has contributed to photography's growth by mounting exhibitions featuring the most distinguished practitioners of the medium, and has also assisted in the development of manynew artists’ careers.
