“There is Something for Everyone!”
There is something for everyone at this popular west-central Minnesota State Park. Hike to Mount Tom, one of several high points in a 50-mile radius, and see a patchwork of forest, farmland, prairie knolls, and lakes. Summer visitors enjoy swimming, boating, and fishing on Lake Andrew. A canoe route invites adventurers to portage and canoe on Henschien Lake and Swan Lake. The park offers campgrounds, a modern group center, horseback camps, picnic area, and interpretive programs year-around. White-tailed deer, red and gray fox, coyote, raccoon, and ruffed grouse are inhabitants of the forest. Chipmunks, red and gray squirrels, mink, striped skunks, badgers, and woodchucks are other species visitors can see as they hike the trails at Sibley State Park. Birds common to Sibley include great blue herons, egrets, wood ducks, Canada geese, scarlet tanagers, indigo buntings, pelicans, loons and bluebirds. Peter Broberg, along with other residents, were successful in getting the Minnesota State Legislature to provide funds to purchase land which became Sibley State Park. Realizing that the area was a popular spot for more than the local people, the Legislature established Sibley as a state park in 1919. The park was named after Henry Hastings Sibley, Minnesota's first governor. In 1935 the Federal government sent the Veterans Conservation Corps to Sibley State Park. For the next three years, this group of up to 200 men built roads, buildings, and trails within the park. When the camp was finished, they left behind several granite buildings and a popular state park.

Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on July 26, 2018There are two campgrounds: Lake and Oak Ridge. We stayed in Oak Ridge. Lake is older and more popular and the sites are fairly close together. Oak Ridge has well separated sites and many are surrounded by woods for privacy. The campground has electricity, flush toilets, showers. There is also a dump station.
The Mt. Tom hike takes you too the highest point in Central Minnesota. There is a good well marked trail that is wooded with ups and downs.

We stayed one night in the newer Oak Ridge campground and loved it. Considering how busy the lake view campground was, I could not believe how quiet the Oak Ridge campground was. Honestly unless it is winter and I am there to ice fish, there is no chance I will ever stay in the Lakeview sites, way too crowded, and zero privacy. The Oak Ridge sites, on the other hand, had great privacy and were unbelievably quiet. It probably helped that it was a Wednesday night, but I was still shocked by how nice it was. The bath house was also quite nice, though it was a bit of a hike to get there, but worth it for the peace and quiet. The good news is that you can get to the beach and fishing fairly fast too, as you are still less than a mile from the lake. One other major bonus...I think I saw maybe two mosquitoes. I’m not sure why the bug conditions were so good, but it was a definite plus!

Kid friendly hiking. Most trails are paved. Mt Tom observation deck is a quick hike from the parking lot and has some decent views. Lake Andrew is clear with a large and beautiful beach.
