“Exuberant 1892 Victorian Bed and Breakfast”
Once the home and office of Dr. Isaac Porter Primrose, this exuberant 1892 Victorian is now a classic Bed and Breakfast. The house is filled with beautiful oak floors and trim, colorful stained glass transoms, and an original kitchen with marble countertop. It is now a “sister lodging” to the Hyde House (formerly The Mead House B&B) across the street, and the two dwellings have several other interesting connections. About 12 miles from Athens and Ohio University. The Hyde family descendents continued to live in the home until the 1970s. The house became a rental property thereafter and fell into disrepair. It was lovingly restored by Michael and Sheila Mark in 2006-2007, with its original plaster walls, wood floors, opulent woodwork, and beautiful winding staircase. Located just a block from the historic square in Nelsonville, Ohio, it is now a proud contributor to this local artist community. Four guest rooms, each with their own bathroom, offer Bed & Breakfast to visitors who enjoy the atmosphere of days gone by. Located near Ohio University, Hocking College and the Wayne National Forest, the Mead house has all the warmth and welcoming atmosphere that typifies this region of Appalachia.
