“The Finest Surf Fishing Anywhere!”

A sweeping Grand Strand beach, pristine and wide open, stands as one of the most recognizable South Carolina landmarks. Revel in sea-breeze camping, the finest surf fishing South Carolina has to offer and some of the top bird-watching on the East Coast. That’s not all Huntington Beach State Park has to offer. There are also South Carolina landmarks such as Atalaya, the picturesque, Moorish-style winter home of Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, philanthropist and sculptor, respectively, who left the park and adjacent Brookgreen Gardens as their legacy.  Nature lovers also will enjoy the park’s Nature Center and wide variety of programming, including the chance to see loggerhead turtles and other endangered plant and animal species up close. The park’s freshwater lake is a sure-fire place to see alligators and sometimes even a mink or two. Pet-friendly, but remember to use a leash!

There’s so much to love about this campground and state park! Most sites are generously sized for our midsized camper and there are plenty of sites for big rigs. Most are shaded and reasonably private, some very private. The beach is beautiful and clean. The rest of the park offers trails and marsh overlooks. The staff if helpful and kind. Murrell’s Inlet is a bike ride (on a bike path) to the north and Pawleys Island is to the south. Cell phone coverage was good for Verizon but the WiFi wasn’t. We used our phone as a hotspot. But all of the positives more than make up for that small inconvenience! We absolutely loved it and will go again!,

We stayed two nights at this lovely campground in March 2020. Our particular site (127) was very shady and tucked away from the road. Quite a bit of privacy between the campsites in the north campground, especially the shaded loop. Bathroom facilities had shower stalls, all were very clean. (The newer campground loop has little or no shade and no privacy; the price you pay for updated bathrooms/showers I suppose).
We walked to the beach every day thanks to the well kept trails from the campground. The beach was very quiet during our early spring stay, but I imagine that it gets much more busy during the summer. Overall this park was beautiful! We would definitely camp here again.

Stayed in the North Campground in site 124 the second weekend of August 2020. This site was large and shaded. Conveniently located near 2 bathhouses and one of the beach accesses. We saw lots of alligators, starfish, and crabs here. Nice break from the hustle and bustle of all private campgrounds in the area. All you see is beach, sand dunes and a few people. We liked that the North side was more private and shaded then the South side. Walked around and found a couple of sites that we would like to try 119 and 51 both looked great! Was told we would have good WIFI being close to the bathhouse but we did not.

Live oaks, beach, marshes, nature center, and more at this great park. We stayed in the older section which has large, shady sites. There are short trails leading to the beach, and a longer trail through the forest. I wish we could have stayed longer.

My only complaints were the very low water pressure at our site and motorcycles cruising in at night. (It was a biker's weekend up the road.)

I wish the checkout time (12:00) was later, but we were told we could vacate our site, then move to a parking lot to continue to enjoy the park for the day. We'll be back, especially since this park is located near where my husband grew up.

Alligators, cormorants, turtles, frogs, pelicans, sand pipers, crabs, herons, kingfishers! If you love nature, you’ll love this campground. So easy to get in and out. Bring your bicycle and spy glasses. Will definitely return! Camp store on site with limited provisions and firewood. Meh public WiFi; don’t depend on it for work.

We loved the location right next to the beach. However, after a day, we were itching to to sightsee or ride our bikes to different locations. The long bike path at the entrance to the park simply follows a road with few views or interesting aspects. The location of the state park requires a long drive through many stop lights and many strip malls, chain stores, touristy type restaurants and shops, etc.

Our site was in the beach side area. It was flat, paved, and had full connections. We could easily walk out to the beach for a walk (they do allow dogs on it). A bit of a pain was the height of the sewer connection which meant that I had to lift up my drain tube with each dump to ensure everything got out of it ( I do use a tube support but the connection was even higher).

While we were glad to stop by and see the area, I'm not sure there is much there to draw us back.

Love this secluded site. Not close to the ocean, but can easily hear roar of waves in the evening. NOTE: notified today that HB will not be included in snowbird special rates for Dec-Feb 21-22. Myrtle Beach will continue program.

Our site was great for our camper van but may be a bit tight for class A. Note that it is also facing the one way road with cars coming towards you, but we didn't have any issue with car lights. Nice tree cover and separation from other sites. Bathhouse was clean with good showers. We got a heavy overnight rain but our site drained well. Inside sites were wetter with some large standing puddles. No bugs since it was chilly. Great beach walk and very dog friendly. Nice trails through the marsh and inland forest.
Check in team at the camp store was super nice. Wood was $7 but it burned well.
If you're interested in learning about fishing opportunities see if you can find Al - one of the campground hosts. He can give you lots of info about the local spots and best bait places, etc.

The low country of coastal South Carolina is the perfect setting for anyone who loves the beach, and Huntington Beach State Park doesn’t disappoint. Located only 10 minutes from the Marshwalk of Murrells Inlet, and only 20 minutes from Myrtle Beach, the beautiful grounds of Huntington are surrounded by the marsh ecosystem on one side and the vast beach on the other.

The north campground has more spacious sites with ample shade, while the south campground has concrete pads and sewer. Both have easy access to the ocean. The park has a large gift shop and store, a terrific nature center, day-use areas for beach goers, and a beautiful causeway and several extended boardwalks into the marsh that allow wildlife sightings of countless bird species and the ever-present alligator.

Huntington is one of the premier beach campgrounds on the east coast. If you love walking of biking, you’ll love the trails and roads both within and outside the park. The Pawleys Island community is minutes away with many restaurants and grocery options.

We loved it there and would absolutely return.

The park is amazing and I feel like we only saw a small part of it. Site 153 had terrible cell reception, so I am glad I wasn’t trying to work! The north side has better reception and with a booster you could probably work.
I envisioned a week of warm beach weather. That was not to be. However, be brought our bikes and explored all around us. You can bike all over the park, and right at the entrance there is a bike path that goes north to Murrels Inlet and south to Pawleys Island. The weather was perfect for biking!

The bathhouses are clean and large. The beach is amazing! I didn’t hike any of the trails, but I assume they are great. If you are a bird watcher, this park is a slice of heaven. All of the FHU sites are gone for NEXT May already, but we were able to book a large wooded site on the north end for next year. The extra space is a fair trade off for no sewer. We can’t wait to go back!
