“awe-inspiring formation of solid rock”
The Shenandoah Valley was once a floor of a great inland sea. Centuries ago, as that sea receded, the forces of Nature carefully etched out an awe-inspiring formation of solid rock. The Natural Chimneys tower as much as 120 feet above the pastoral terrain of the Shenandoah Valley, offering onlookers a sight unrivaled in majesty.

There are two bathhouses. Both are dated but functional with 3 toilets & 3 showers. The friendly camp host (Anita) checked us in. Park was around 30 minutes from Staunton, VA, where we wanted to visit.
We'd return to camp here because it is most convenient camping I could find near I81.

We chose this campground because it was relatively close to Harrisonburg, Virginia, where friends of ours were getting married. It's kindof a weird place, but it served our purposes well.
Most of the sites are in a big open field but the hookups are such that people end up parking their RVs in different directions, so whether you have privacy is very much dependent on how many people are staying at the campground and how they choose to park. It's really quite odd. But, it's still a government park which means it still offers more space than most commercial parks, and during the time we were there, we always felt we had plenty of space. Also, only a handful of sites offer full hook ups, so if that's something you need, it's worthwhile to call ahead and make a reservation.
This park is located about 20 minutes south of Harrisonburg. There isn't much else nearby, but if you need to be in Harrisonburg for whatever reason, it's a decent location. Otherwise, the park was very pretty, offered some interesting geological formations, lots of green spaces, trees, a creek, and well maintained interior roads and paths.
We would stay here again if we found ourselves back in the area.

As noted in another review, the park is odd in that though the sites are numbered, there is no specific place designated for parking. RVs are parked in all directions and moveable fire pits and picnic tables show people move things around.
The chimneys are very neat and the river trail is a great short walk.
Most sites are 30 amp, but 50 amp sites are scattered around and a few sites have sewer.
