Quiet spot by a small lake. We stayed in our van. Lots of room for camping and maybe two RVs at a push, although road may not permit. We heard coyotes and I’m pretty sure we saw a beaver. Lots of bugs - never seen so many flies in our van. Only saw one local fishing at the end of the lake in the morning.
I arrived and left in the dark so I can’t speak to the setting. I just needed a free, safe place to sleep in car as I wrapped up a road trip and this was perfect! GPS took me right there and roads weren’t bad at all even in rain. Completely quiet and secluded. I’d use it again. I had no service though (AT&T) until back on highway.
It is more like a big dirt culdesac on a small pond feed by a creek. There is a picnic shelter but no Hookups or facilities so need to be self-contained. I was the only one camping during midweek stay. Several local fishermen and hikers with a very easy approx 3-mile hike around entire pond. Super quiet except for nature sounds. Stop over for lots of birds including swans. Closest town is Pisgah about 2 miles away. Good Verizon reception.
We had the area to ourselves for our one night here and it was so lovely. There is access to a hiking trail that will take you about an hour/1.5 hours to walk a leisurely pace. It was really nice to get out there after a long day of driving. Picnic tables and fire pit with grate for grilling also right there. Could definitely fit two big rigs comfortably.
Stopped here for an overnight rest.
Leaves were changing and it was gorgeous!
No AT&T cell or data service.
Other the van dweller who arrived late and had no regard for keeping her dog in check, it was a great place.
Common sense tip: if you let your dog out, unattended, with no regard for its safety or the safety of others... and something happens to it, YOU are to blame.
Have some sense!
Arrived on a Saturday evening and I had the place to myself. There is a trash can, picnic tables, and a fire ring. This place is immaculate and the grass was recently cut.
Camping next to a large pond surrounded by woodlands and no one but us. If we weren’t traveling, it would have been nice to stay here for a few days of peace and quiet.
Nice out of the way area. Won’t hold long rigs well, mine fit ok 25ft and truck was tight. Enjoyed my evening.
Initially this was hard to find because you can't see the site from the road. My husband backed in our 34 ft. trailer. It was a bit of a challenge, but he managed. There's probably enough room here for two smaller campers. In the seven days we were here, there was at least one other camper per night (van, bike, car). It is pretty here, and the pond is larger than expected. There is a trail, which was a bit overgrown, but our dogs appreciated the exercise. There's also a pavilion with four picnic tables and a fire pit. Lots of fishermen have been coming and catching bass and catfish. There is a boat launch too. This site requires miles of gravel roads.
Mid week stop for our 36 ft fifth wheel. We were nervous pulling in right at sunset but got lucky someone was pulling out. It too tight for anything much larger but we managed to turn around with help from the one small truck camper who was kind enough to move his car so we could manage. Woke up to a beautiful private view of the pond and totally worth the small paved road to get here. If you’re thinking about stopping here definitely do it. The way out for us was on a nation scenic bypass and was so pretty.no cell service but starlink sure worked!
