Winding Hills Park is located off NY 17K in the Comfort Hills west of the village of Montgomery, New York, United States, straddling the Montgomery-Crawford town line. It is a area centered on Diamond Lake that is primarily used for outdoor recreation. Much of the park is wooded, with some clear areas around the roads. The hills slope up to the east, and the terrain to the north and west remains gently rolling. Elevations range from above sea level at the west, where Pine Swamp drains toward the Wallkill River via a short unnamed tributary, to at the USGS Kimball benchmark. The lake is available for paddleboat rental and angling in season, and two smaller ponds on the property are also open to fishermen. There are 51 campsites available for overnight use, between May and October, with payment of an adequate reservation fee. A trail system is open to hikers and horseback riders, as well as snowshoers and snowmobilers in winter. A picnic area with 40 individual picnic sites is available for use. Each individual picnic site contains a table and charcoal grill. A picnic shelter for group use is also available. The rental fee for use of the shelter is $150, for both Orange County and Non-County groups.

Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on September 10, 2022It’s really pretty here, but the sites are gravel tags that slope wildly, with narrow roads. We eventually had to back out of the campground in our 38’ Class A towing a motorcycle trailer.
The kicker is that I called the campground and asked the ranger *very specifically* if the camp could accommodate a 50’ total rig and he gave me a hearty “no problem.” Problem yes. Big problem.
Also: mobile dead zone.

Great local county park with great camping close to home. We live within 5 miles so it was our shakedown weekend. The sites are great, not too crowded and mostly level. There are tent sites and sites for RVs. No full service sites just electric, but there is a dump station and the bath houses are clean and neat. The lake is a short walk from your site and is a great place to catch some bass.

We stopped here to visit Storm King Art Center on our return trip from Cape Cod. It’s a little pricy for just an electrical hookup but we enjoyed this small quiet campground. Very friendly staff. No reservations accepted except for holidays. We arrived early on a Saturday morning and had numerous choices for our campsite.

Perfect county park. They don’t take reservations which is so nice for travelers who aren’t sure where they will end up. Came in at 7pm on a Wednesday and there were many open spots to choose from.
Pretty lake. Very quiet. Super clean bathrooms and free hot showers. $35 for local residents, $45 for others with electricity.
Fun Bonus is Paul Teutel Jr (Orange Co Choppers) has a motorcycle shop minutes from the park in Montgomery NY-apparently he has a home here as well.

This county park will remind you of a typical state park with woods and generally good spacing between sites. Some sites are more level than others. The road in the camping arrow is recently paved, but somewhat narrow. This is a popular spot for locals. Its $45 with electric hook ups and $40 without hookups for non-locals. There are water spigots spread around the campground. The bathrooms (two buildings) are older style and clean. IF you need to use the bathroom, then pick a site that backs up to the bathroom, since the access was not convenient if not. You would often have to walk around the loop to find the general access. They charge $35 to dump, so adding that to the camping fee it ends of being a bit pricey. This is a first come first serve campground, except for Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day weekend.

After reading reviews here and seeing no reservations needed, we arrived after dark and picked a non electric site that was easy to navigate and required little leveling. The park is near a small airport so it was noisy until 10pm and again in the early morning. We found the bath houses clean and it was nice to have hot showers no coins needed. We hiked to the pond in the morning before hearing back to the highway. Good place to just stay overnight.
