Aztec Hotel

The Historic Aztec Hotel was constructed in 1925 in the foothills of Los Angeles along original U.S. Route 66 (also known as the Will Rogers Highway for the humorist and colloquially known as the “Main Street of America”). This ornately designed Hotel with Mayan and Aztec architecture is situated in downtown Monrovia. It was restored and placed on the National Historic Register in 2003. Today, the Hotel is one of only a few Mayan-style building remaining in the United States. In 1978, the Aztec Hotel was named a National Historic Landmark and was included in the National Register of Historic Places. It has become a popular stopover for travelers along original Route 66.The original tile floor remains in perfect condition and the dome-shaped windows are original. Stained glass, well-preserved murals, lighting fixtures, a unique fireplace, and Mayan sculptures remain from the original design. Stop to take a look at this bit of Southern California's history.
