“For the Shelby lover”

Jerry and his wife Mavis are the owners of Telstar Motors in Mitchell, South Dakota. They deal exclusively in Mustang and Shelby restorations. In addition, Jerry and Mavis are the founders of the first Shelby and Mustang museum containing at least one Shelby from every year and model of production. "Many people have talked about starting a Mustang and Shelby museum, but we actually did it," Jerry says with a smile. The museum resulted from their constantly growing personal collection which started in 1979. While building the museum they completed two personal restorations each year. People have come from all over the world, including Sweden, South Africa, Turkey, France, Japan and Australia to see this collection. A remodeled showroom, including temperature and humidity control and a sound system playing muscle-car era music, was completed before the museum's opening in June of 1990. Jerry and crew restored every car, from placing the bodies on a frame jig to ensure perfect alignment to hand painting instrument needles. Every bolt in these classic cars has been removed, inspected, cleaned and rethreaded or replaced. All the Cobra and Shelby titles have been autographed by Carroll Shelby.

Jerry is a Mustang man through and through. His knowledge and talent make for a beautiful museum of cars. As OCDGYRL mentioned, the admission may make this a waste of money unless you're a real Mustang lover.

This is a really neat place to see. Jerry has got to be one of the most knowledgeable men on Mustang's out there. We have even talked about bringing ours in. He is super nice and humble. He's older but can get up and down and off the ground better than my 40 year old body can.

The museum has some really neat Mustangs and they are pristine. I would absolutely not suggest small children or anyone who can't keep their hands in their pants. These cars are perfection.

Mavis seems like a force to be reckoned with. She is pretty pushy about selling things and has a bit more of an attitude. We felt like we were imposing on her. She is the one that does the tours but seems like she really doesn't want to do them anymore.

The price was the highest we paid for our entire trip for a single museum. I was very shocked and wouldn't pay that much to see it again. Mavis is very knowledgeable as well about the cars and has helped in restoration.

They definitely had beautiful cars. We visited in August 2021 and both Jerry and Mavis were very nice and they have some sweet looking cars for sure. It was a $20 charge to see their private collection which was fine for an hour tour. Unfortunately they did sell their main collection which was disappointing and I wish we had known beforehand. They did buy back two of their original collections. Saying that, I still enjoyed seeing their current collection which was great. I would recommend this as a relaxing stop if you are into these types of cars.

$15 per person CASH only admittance fee. This is not a museum in the traditional sense, they are allowing you to see their personal collection. This is a restoration shop. Very nice people, but we opted not to go because we didn't have the cash.

We had a similar experience as Dawn. She was kind of short with us when my boys would be trying to ask questions. I do wish that if they were going to charge $20 per adult for the Tour, they would tell that beforehand. They don't have nearly the collection that they used to. We probably wouldn't have stopped had we known the price. The cars were beautiful though.

Fantastic collection and knowledge. Jerry and Mavis are a real treat, such a pleasure to have met them. This stop was a Must for us on our way to SEMA 2015.

What a wonderful place. The personalized tour was through and interesting. Even a diehard mustang/ Shelby fan will learn something new!
