Ratings Summary
Best spot we’ve camped at in Maine since our arrival from Washington State in 2017. We have pretty high expectations for beauty, nearby water, and cleanliness.
We found the hosts to be wonderful, friendly in the Chewonki tradition we have come to know living in Wiscasset, Maine—the home of the Chewonki School and their other campground.
Everything was clean, albeit rustic. View was gorgeous.
We loved being able to park so close to natural beauty. Many birds around the river.
Close to Baxter State Park and interesting places to walk to near by. Campsites are on both sides of the Penobscot River. In July there were swimmers, rafters, and kayakers plus many people fishing from river safe boats and from the shore.

We camped on the Penobscot River where we fly fished for Salmon and Trout. Watched kayakers and rafters navigate class 5 rapids. This is a laidback, friendly campground and we look forward to visiting again.

Turned around on a 18 minute gravel beat up road after four miles. The road was beating my car and the trailer.
