“centuries old, wonderfully wild”

Escape to this exquisite Hot and Warm Springs area bed breakfast in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. A stone’s throw from Lexington and Staunton, Fort Lewis is a vast 3200 acre plantation inn first carved from the wilderness in the 1750's. At the heart of it all sits the Lodge, nestled in a scenic river valley at the foot of Shenandoah Mountain. Nearby are the soothing waters of Virginia's historic Warm and Hot Springs. Here you will find a rare combination of unpretentious elegance, superb food and unique B&B lodging choices where every room has a view. Like most country inns and bed and breakfasts, we trade in a change of pace, romance, and exceptional fare. But over the years we’ve come to understand that Fort Lewis has an asset that few others have. Our Shenandoah Valley wilderness - the mountains, forests, fields and streams and all the creatures that call this their home. Evenings are highlighted by farm fresh American style cuisine served nightly in the restored 1850’s Lewis Gristmill. Outdoor activities abound with miles of river trout and bass fishing, a classic swimming hole, extensive hiking trails, mountain biking, and magnificent vistas.

Each summer we travel from Louisiana to NY and back again with our two boys and try to find unique, fun places to stay along the way to make our trip an adventure. After finding Ft. Lewis Lodge two summers ago, this is now the benchmark by which we judge all other places. It is a little slice of heaven - so relaxed, so beautiful. The accommodations and simple and tasteful and comfortable. Caryl and Dan are perfect hosts and Caryl is a whiz in the kitchen. And the old fashioned swimming hole is perfection. In fact, we just booked our 3rd stay in a row because our boys (now 7 & 5) cannot imagine a summer without a stay at Ft. Lewis Lodge!
