Way cheaper than the KOA, and much nicer! Bath houses were like new, and a great little socialization area where you can buy breakfast, get WiFi, and talk with other campers and camp staff about local things you have to see!
Mt Desert Campground is a rare place - heavily wooded with oceanbay sites. Best for tent campers, it does have a limited number of water and electricity sites that can handle travel trailers up to 20'. We've vacationed here off and on for two decades and measure all other campgrounds against it. Most sites are very private and many of the tent sites include wooden platforms due to uneven topography and wind along the waterfront. But that's what makes it great. It's always packed with families and kids but it is super quiet at night. And access to Acadia National Park is what makes it great. Plus Mt Desert Campground is right in the middle of Mount Desert so its easy to get to any part of the island.

This campground was perfect location to Acadia and to town of Bar Harbor. The shuttle comes right to the campground that will take you into town-that was a huge draw for us as parking a giant truck downtown was not ideal. Some of the water front spots are extremely tight and you do not have much space between RVs-some are a little more spaced out. We will def come back again because of the ease of access to all the places we wanted to be!

This is a beautiful, quiet, well run & maintained campground within a few miles of Acadia and Bar Harbor. There was an eclectic mix of families, couples young and old, tents and small rigs & trailers. What impressed us was the quiet, despite an early season, post-Covid 100% occupancy. Campers were very respectful of each other. Bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Bring quarters for hot showers - $1 per 5 min. The water view at B6 was incomparable, however the 12' rocky drop to the water level might be a concern for those with young children. We were unable to launch our kayaks from our site as we had planned, but launched them from the nearby boat ramp. Other waterfront sites appeared to be at water level, which would facilitate easier water sports/play. Verizon internet was poor. We were able to make calls and text most of the time, but data was almost non-existent despite 4 bars. There is free wi-fi at the Gathering Place, located in camping area A. Tables and chairs are provided on the front porch there. Due to Covid, the shuttle to Bar Harbor was not running, but we were able to find parking in a bustling Bar Harbor. We would absolutely return to this campground again for its natural beauty and proximity to other beautiful areas of Maine!

We absolutely loved this campground. So beautiful. Our site was nestled in the trees but close enough to the water. If we stayed again we’d try for a site on the water but still loved ours. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The bathhouses are nice and clean. There is access to the water and they offer boat rentals. The location is also great - just within a few mins of Acadia. Can’t wait to go back!

I grew up camping, but this my my first time planning a trip on my own - I definitely recommend this place for first time campers! The staff at the front desk & the little breakfast stand were wonderful and knowledgeable. We got a site close to the bathrooms, which were clean and well taken care of. Located close to Acadia, there are a lot of things to do off site, but they do offer kayak and canoe rentals at the campground for those who want to soak up the views close to home base.

Family owned campground with sites and bathrooms well maintained. Can’t beat the location to Acadia and everything Mount Desert Island has to offer. The camp roads are treacherous and the sites are a challenge to get our Basecamp 16X into the site but was accomplished. Live that they restrict to 20 feet or less. They could really use dish washing station at each bathhouse and a basic camp store. But coffee and baked goods in the morning and I e cream in the afternoon were from local vendors and delicious!
