We found a pull through site next to a small creek large enough to group camp with 2-3 small RVs and a tent. No hook ups and no cell service but who cares. Great fun. Plus it was 11mi from the wilds. Definitely will be back.

My buddies and I (usually 10-15 guys) take our annual fishing/camping trip to horse run lake every year! We enjoy the primitive location with no cell phones to bother us and the relaxation of the woods and spending time on the lake! We don't catch a lot of fish, buts it's a trip that continues to grow in numbers every year. When we invite another guy on the trip, they always come back for the next year. We drive 2.5 hours one way just to enjoy the week. 2017 will be the 6th annual fishing trip, we are headed down in July. If your looking for a nice quiet place to camp, head to sand hollow, you won't be disappointed!!

We read about AEP ReCreation lands so we decided to venture forth. The campsites were very clean and nicely maintained. There was water available and we were extremely happy with our site. We would have given it 5 stars had we found a cell signal but you can’t have everything. We also checked out Hook Lake and the Miners’ Memorial with Big Muskie Buket. This is a great place for free, dispersed camping. Also, it’s not far from home so we will return in warmer weather.

My husband and I went camping here for the first time last week. We are primitive campers and did not mind at all that there was no water sources available. When we went there seemed to be quite a few others camping but other than the occasional car driving past it was still very peaceful and everyone we encountered was very nice. We were a bit confused by the "self registration Kiosk" that we were supposed to sign in to but could not locate anywhere. Be advised there is NO cell service but I mean isn't that the point to get out and get unplugged! Over all very lovely area and we plan on going back. Would be great for groups. Print maps ( the ones from the website work just great) we had no trouble finding it. Also as of right now the phone number on the website to contact for questions ( which is also the number on the welcome sign) is not really accurate as that park no longer regulated the site so they are not really helpful... The sites now seemed to be numbered as well. Another camper said that was new this year. Not sure if they will be implementing a new registration process or not. We stayed at what we think was either site 47 or 48. The other bonus is if you get there and they are full they are just a short drive from the AEP Rec Land camp slot A ( Hook Lake)

Sites are mostly full shade and very unlevel. Suited mostly for tents, vans and very small campers. Most sights are situated along a pond which many people fished in. Mosquitoes were terrible. Not much to do in the area. Trails were overgrown and I didn't want to take a chance on walking up on a snake I couldn't see. Seemed like most campers were locals. Pit toilet was scary. Filled with flies and mosquitoes.

If you’re looking for a place that barely has service, a beautiful lake you can kayak on, and spaced out campsites where you barely see anyone then this is it.
I was hoping for one more bar on my ATT so I could stay longer and work remote but either way it was a perfect getaway for my pups and I.
At site 81 it was about a 1.5 mile walk to the front where there’s a lake and my dogs took a swim. There’s also a 2.5 mile looped trail that was very overgrown. We dipped out after a mile of it since I had shorts on and already found one tick.
We stopped by a few empty sites to see what my next option would be.
100% plan on coming here again.

We arrived on Friday at 3:30pm and were surprised to see the majority of the camps taken. This is a beautiful campground with plenty of space between the sites. It was very quiet and peaceful.
This campground is pet friendly, but only allows 2 dogs per campsite. Dogs must be leashed at all times with a leash of 5ft or less.
There is a lake and hiking trails on-site.
