“upscale casual Lebanese cuisine”
The Phoenician Taverna is a new upscale casual restaurant in Mason serving Mediterranean food and specializing in Lebanese cuisine. We have a very open kitchen that is part of the dining room! We prepare our entire menu in the house from baking our own pita bread to stuffing sausages in natural casings.
What the table ordered: (2 people)
Almaza beer, hommus, fool m'dammas, lamb ouzi, jallab, espresso doble, halawet jibne
Cost of entire meal: $45.12
My 2 cents: Loved this place! We randomly came here on the night of 4th of July as an alternative to seeing the fireworks. I didn't have high expectations for the inside decor since it's in a strip mall, but the ambiance turned out to be not half bad. I've had some previous exposure to authentic Middle Eastern cuisine, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the food here at Phoenician. There's a great amount of variety on the menu and everything we ordered was amazing. I personally recommend the Fool (stewed, hot fava beans) as an appetizer. I had to try the halawet for dessert since I'd never heard of it - I liked it but it was a little sweet for my taste. I'd also never tried the drink, jallab, but it was unique and refreshing. We'll definitely be going back!
Don't let the exterior fool you, this place is classier on the inside. As far as my boyfriend and I know this is very authentic Lebanese cuisine. We had the hommus special to start along with some Kibbeh and it was served with freshly cooked flat bread that was delicious. We barely had room for our main entrees which were both delicious and made a great lunch the next day! For two starters and two mains our bill was around $50. Defiantly a new favorite in town!
