Manteno State Hospital opened in the early 30s and was the site of 50 deaths during a typhoid fever outbreak in 1939. It later became a mental hospital until its closure in 1985.
Today, the site is about as creepy as you can imagine. Despite efforts to sell off pieces of the grounds (housing projects now line the outskirts)
