A lovely park next to the river!

The good: Camping is $5 a night. There’s water, picnic table and a stationary grill at the spacious camp site! There are also picnic shelters and quite a bit of playground equipment. Across the street is a baseball diamond. The river is just over the bank and it was a lovely place to watch the sunset!

The bad: The trains were a little loud and there was loud traffic through the park until about 11pm (Sunday night).

Overall I felt safe & no one approached me - solo female traveler with my dog.

This city park allows overnight camping for just $3. There are a couple of long, gravel pull- throughs that could accommodate any size rig or you can park on the grass. There are water spigots (threaded, so you don’t need a water thief) but no electric or dump station.

Most of the sites are partially shaded, under large cottonwood trees. There are restrooms, BBQ grills, large picnic shelters, and tables. The park gets fairly steady local traffic using the basketball and volleyball courts, soft ball fields, playground equipment and horseshoe pits, but it was never crowded and the park cleared out shortly after dusk.

We enjoyed the short trail along Milk River which surrounds the park on two sides. Look along the bank and you’ll see old cars used to help shore up the levy. Very cool. There are also museums, store, food service, and fuel available within 1 mile, many within walking distance.

Note: To access the park follow the signs to the “rest stop”. You’ll pass a private RV park on the left just as you enter. As you come into the park there are gravel roads to the left, center and right (between the stone columns). Keep to the far left or right, especially if you’re in a big rig – there was a fairly low hanging cable across the center access road. The gravel roads were also deep deeply rutted in places, so take it slow. We had 5 bars of Verizon LTE without boosting. Yeah!

We stayed one night in July. Price is now $5.00. No assigned spots seems like you just park wherever. Quite night but... BRING MOSQUITOE SPRAY in summer! Absolutely the worst mosquitoes I’ve ever seen. There’s a river behind the park must contribute to the amount. There was a softball game and small farmers market going on.
Bathrooms were near ball park and were average.

Notes:
• The Hitching Post Cafe had great breakfast! Omelette with fresh mushrooms!

• Don’t Miss the Bowdoin National Wildlife Refuge. I’ve never seen so many birds. Islands full of white pelicans. It’s a migratory bird refuge. There’s a drive around the park and is worth it even if you can’t leave the car because of mosquitoes.

• The small dinosaur museum in town was a neat stop. They have discovered a new dinosaur and there’s a lot of fossils from the area. It’s $5.00

We’re self contained so no hookups is not a problem for us. There are water spigots around the park. We ran the generator until we went to bed and opened the windows. Can’t say what the restroom is like because we didn’t use it. Access was easy and we’re over 55’ long with our toad. We were in a nice big pullthru under a couple trees. Ground was packed dirt with a little gravel and it was pretty level. Would definitely stop here again.

Stayed here for one night when traveling from Glacier NP to MN. The price is great, but not sure I would stay again in the summer. Maybe in the Fall when the temps are cooler as the mosquitoes are horrendous! But,the park is right nest to the Milk River, so it's not really surprising. Unfortunately I have the sweetest blood to mosquitoes and could not go outside without being swarmed. The kids and husband were able to use spray and go to the play equipment (some of which is new, other pieces are older than me). We used a pull through site and it was mostly easy going. Some of the dirt drive through the park had a few larger dips from recent rain and usage, but not too bad. Most of the trees were tall enough or spread enough to get through without sweeping our larger rig. We did not use the restrooms or the water available. No AT&T, but Verizon service was good enough for me to work remotely. Side note: the dinosaur museum in town is small, but has a few good pieces. Adults are $5, kids over 5 are $3, and under 5 are free. If military, active or vet, the whole family is free.

Note: this park is called Trafton Park.
We'd originally planned to stay here for 2-3 nights and it's a good thing we didn't because the mosquitoes were swarming. They don't bother e so my husband got the brunt of their attacks. But, other than that this is a nice little park and great for an overnight or more. At $5 a night it's a great deal. You are 10 min walk from town where there is an Albertson's and several other stores. There is also a Pioneer Museum which we did not get to. There is a gas station right on the corner.
As you enter the park you'll drive the loop and on the far side there are several pull through sites-they get better that farther you go so drive to the last one if it's empty. They are spacious, far enough away from each other for privacy and level. I would watch out though f there are heavy rains. We had a bit and it looked like they could get very muddy.
There is a nice walking trail up behind the sites as well.
There are restrooms and water is available.
There is a train that goes through town that can be noisy but we didn't really notice it at night with our windows closed.

All the previous reviews describe this place accurately. Trees provide decent shade that make staying here on a hot July evening tolerable without power. Plenty of water points through out the park, would stay again if passing through. One note... ATT is barely useable as we’re right on the edge of their coverage which appears to be nonexistent from here east to the ND state line... very goof t-mobile service though which was a pleasant surprise.

traveling from Glacier back home, this was a convenient location. Not very populated in the fall which was perfect for us. A few people walking the park in the evening which was nice

Stayed here May 22nd to the 25th 2021 and had a nice quiet stay. The park sits along the Milk River and has two nature trails to walk and explore. The bathrooms are vault toilets but the were still closed from the winter. The parking is were ever but there are nice picnic tables and charcoal grills, we camped next to one. Water spigots and garbage cans are available throughout the park. Lots of playground equipment around so children were around playing but no bother. Grocery store and gas station are within walking distance. $5 is a bargain!!
