“The head of the Wisconsin government”
The majestic Roman Renaissance-style State Capitol has the only granite dome in the U.S. and inside has over 40 different types of stone from around the world as well as murals and handmade furniture. The observation deck, open in the summer, offers views of the city and surrounding lakes. Capitol Square plays host to state events throughout the year including Farmers Markets and Folk Festivals.
Unlike most state capitols that echo the Washington Capitol with two wings, Wisconsin built one with four wings so that it looks like an X from above. Distinctive.
Also distinctive in that it lies in the very center point between the two lakes on a high point. Great views.
Perfectly placed in the heart of Madison. If you're a capitol fan, this one's doesn't disappoint. Due to timing, we weren't able to tour inside, but I did read they'll resume interior tours in July 2021.
This is a really pretty building. You can walk around it and see the downtown area. When I went there was a cool street fair going on. If you are in Madison definitely a place you should check out.
