Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on September 07, 2023We followed the GPS directions and saw the road we had to turn on but the sign for the wildlife management area is old and faded so it was hard to see. The campground is about 2 miles in the road is OK but we took it slow with our 26 foot class C motorhome. The campground is just a big open space with no designated campsites and a vault toilet and there is a boat ramp. We were here in May so we had the whole place to ourselves, if you’re looking to Boondock for free then this is the place. There is no water or electric or garbage so come self prepared and pack it out.

It looked interesting but a terrible experience. The roar was heavily washboarded and when we finally arrived it was a real disappointment because the place is overrun with weeds. My two dogs are covered in stickers. There is an awful stream nearby that looks like a slow moving swamp. Seriously, this place seems like a post apocalyptic campground. Horrible

There was a long dirt road, so I just took my time going down. I wouldn’t plan on using the bathroom here. It had no toilet paper and hadn’t been serviced in a long time. Gravel lot to park and sleep for the night. Was a great spot for passing through!

The drive in.
The drive in is easy with a big rig. I can see that there is an area or 2 on the way in that you would NOT want to go there after a major rain storm.
Deep ruts left over from last years rains suggest the mud could cause a problem.
There is some washboard areas but it’s not bad. I stopped before the bridge because I don’t see a load rating.
Once there.
This is a duck hunter place. Air boats and blinds can be found cruising the waterways.
The main camping area is large and flat. The pit toilet is just that. A pit. The boat ramp is easy and dry.
Hunters are friendly and carry guns with them.
The Area.
The area is 3800 feet above sea level and is covered with scrub brush and tar weeds. Not my favorite look but it’s definitely quiet and zero shade or protection from the wind.
I didn’t explore since I’m on a mission to South Dakota.
It makes a great place to stop and recover from the road.
I was definitely stop again.

The camping area was easy to find and access. We came in later on Christmas Eve and had the area to ourselves. It was level and quiet and the toilet was clean and stocked with toilet paper.
We had a lovely Christmas morning walk with the dogs before heading out.

4 miles off a paved road. Gravel and washboard in some parts; just take your time. We're self-contained so didn't bother with the pit toilet. Loved it.

As others have noted, the road is washboard for a few miles, but not bad it you take it slow. The spot here is a large flat open space which is perfect for a overnight stay. We heard a lot of birds, and coyotes which added to the experience. There was one pit toilet but not in the best condition when we stayed there but useable but with no TP.

It’s great for a stop just for overnight and get some sleep. I wouldn’t recommend just staying there for site seeing. There’s really not much there besides a gravel parking area and pit toilet. The flies bite! The star were beautiful. The bathroom is cleanish and there was toilet paper. Road going is washboard, but manageable.

Nice Boondocking site for the night. I don’t have anything to add to what’s already been stated previously. Yes, the road is a little rough and washboard but not terrible. I usually got my 26 foot class C in here. I’ll add a few photos.
