We enjoyed 3 days and 2 nights at Mohican in mid September. Arrival is easy as you can expect, staff at the main gate had left for the day but we were clearly directed to the camp store just down the road. If you're not opposed to spending 8 bucks on a bag of dirt seeded with arrowheads or gems, they've constructed a sluice just next door to the camp store where kids (or adults I suppose) can sift out their treasure. Innertubes are available for purchase for floating down the Mohican River which runs the length of the campground.

Having chosen a site in the walk-in section we found our dedicated parking spot roughly 100 yards from our site. During high season I'd imagine even this area could feel a bit crowded but with no one in the sites on either side of ours it was quiet and comfortable. Fire ring and picnic table are what you'll find at the site and although well shaded, most of the tent sites don't have the kind of useful trees you'd look for to stretch a line or hang a lantern. Our site had a private path through the brush a short distance to the river.

The area is beautiful with trails as you'd expect. A short drive out of the park and back in through the nearby South Entrance will take you to the less developed portion of the park. I highly recommend the Lyons Falls trail, which is moderate to occasionally strenuous. It takes a high line through the gorge offering two spurs leading to Big and Little Lyons Falls before crossing the river at the dam and leading back by way of a very mild riverside trail.

Overall we would gladly stay at Mohican again, although would avoid high season. Not a particularly serious complaint but worth mentioning that while restrooms are available near the walk in sites, the centrally located shower facilities are a bit of a walk.

Have stayed here maybe 15 week long stays over the last 20 years at Mohican. By far the most popular state park in Ohio. What it has going for it is: Large stainless steel swimming pool, which they added a splash zone for 2015. Good variety of campsites which are mostly level. 60% I would classify as above average in size, the other 40% are average or small. About 30-40 sites are right on the river (Clear Creek) which flows into the Mohican about a 1/4 past the campground. Besides the pool the river is where its at. Great for tubing, kayaking or just messing around in. They have a ice cream shop and campstore and a 20+ mile single track mountain bike trail. But be warned :: It's a tough bugger. The campground roads were re-paved in 2015 and a few more electric sites were up-graded to full service. The electric service is updated and offers good power.

The whole Mohican area is known for canoeing. All the private parks charge more, plus extra for each kid. Even with a electric site at $31 which is the highest in the state, it is a deal compared to the private parks. On the down side. If you want to spend a weekend or a whole week here during the summer months, you better reserve 3-4 months before hand. Otherwise your only option are the first 15 sites called walk in (non-reservable). You would have to arrive on a Mon, Tue or Wed. to get a site.

There is a bike lane / trail that leads into the town of Loudenville about a mile away. Because of the level paved camp roads there are a lot of people who bring bikes and such. The 3 showerhouses are your typical Ohio style. This past summer they did have a second cleaning crew that worked the afternoon (2nd shift) to keep them clean. I did notice a difference...Thanx.

On the down side I would say the playground is past it's due. From what I heard is, if they put in a "new" playground, they would have to upgrade their insurance to cover it, which would be very $$$. Otherwise the old one is Grand-fathered in. It's a shame, because there are a lot of kids here.

Peaceful park despite it being sold out most of the year. Reservations are hard to get, you have to get on those early. Great hiking, nice swimming pool, golf courses nearby and grocery stores/markets not hard to find. Canoe capital of Ohio.

They do a nice job at this busy state park. I was here on a rainy day in May but I can see there are many many activities in the area were one to be here in the summer. If your looking for a quiet sleepy place this probably isn’t it.

I was disappointed that in order to sleep in my vehicle - even though I do not need electric or water I had to buy an electric site.

I would come back in the off season based on how well organized and clean it is. On season I expect it’s a little busy for my liking.

We came down in May and because of excessive rain during the week leading up to our visit, the river was running high and fast and the area was really wet and muddy. But what is camping without a little rain and mud. We had a good time camping and visiting the state park.
My wife and I enjoyed the wildlife talk one evening and got to see owls close up alive. I created a couple video about our visit, so you can check them out at https://youtu.be/bauAm17KuI4 and https://youtu.be/Mquq6ijxDp8.

Mohican is the most popular State camp ground in Ohio and for good reason. There is a large swimming pool, splash pad, kids play ground (all closed due to covid-19), great hiking trails, mountain bike paths (easy to moderate) and inner tubing. There are several clean flush bathrooms within 40 yards of most sites, full hookup and electric only sites, fully equipped cabins and tent only sites. Our first two days were at site #129, which was flat, spacious and shaded. Our second two days were at site #152, which has a beautiful view of the Clear Fork Mohican River, but was tight and busy, lacking adequate shade.

We hiked the 3.25 mile moderate loop from the covered bridge to the Lyon Falls and ending at the dam. The next day we floated down the river several times.

Now for the unpleasant experience: noise, noise, noise! The last day of our stay was marred by the constant rumbling of lawnmowers starting at 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. And there’s bicycles everywhere, especially around the cul de sac we were in. Also beware of the sites 65 thru 88 near the SR 97 highway where you’ll hear vehicles roaring by at night. But there is a bright side at the cabins, which are secluded and far away from the highway and crowded areas. We’re considering a cabin for our next trip.

Overall a great family campground!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay for the most part. Because of Covid-19, the pool, some bathrooms, the camp store, and playgrounds were closed. Thank goodness for the river!

The part we did not enjoy was the storm. Mother Nature reared her head one night and took down massive trees and more than a few RV's.

Two points: (1). you definitely need a tow car if you plan to go most places in the park, and (2) I totally disagree with the evaluation of Verizon service. I have a wi-fi and cell booster on my rig, and the service was still horrible (1 bar). We had to go to a local fast food place and sit outside to use the free wi-fi for a zoom meeting.

Mohican State Park is a nice gem of a state park. The campground itself is relatively small with just about 150 sites. We stayed in our 37ft class A and you could easily fit a larger rig in many of the sites. Anything truly oversized 50ft plus toad might have trouble backing into sites.

With our booster, I had 3 bars of Verizon LTE (7mbps/1mbps) and 4 bars of Sprint LTE but Sprint data simply did not work at all.

The camper cabins and full-amenity cabins are in great locations, nestled into the woods. The best campsites, in my opinion are along the river. Site 85 while busy during the tube-floating seasons due to the river access immediately adjacent, has its own great private access to the river and is in a nice location near the pool, bath house, playground, etc. Quieter sites would be those further away from the river access (68-74, 100-108, etc). Sites in the low 80's are a nice compromise with ready access to the river but a bit of separation from the public access point.

The camp store is nice sized and conveniently centrally located. The pool is similarly conveniently located. There is a bike lane / bike path along the main route outside the campground providing easy bicycle access to town, canoe liveries and more.

One downside is that the campground can sometimes have a bit of road noise at night. Another is that some sites are pretty close together for a state park - more like what you would expect to find at a private park.

This was our first stop on the maiden voyage of our new motor home (24ft) and we got spoiled at Mohican State Park. A perfect paved spot (#36) (no leveling needed), wide spaces with beautiful lawns and friendly people. We will definitely be returning here. So many amenities for the whole family AND a river runs through it. You can tell there is attention to detail here. Thanks for the great start Mohican!
