And yes, we still offer FREE WILBUR BUD® SAMPLES, available when you visit us. In 1972, the Candy Americana® Museum was created by Penny Buzzard, wife of former Wilbur® Chocolate President John Buzzard. Penny went to antique shows and flea markets looking for old chocolate memorabilia. She gathered more than a 1,000 varieties of moulds, tins, and boxes, and displayed them in the museum. Business associates, who learned of her efforts, began to contribute pieces such as: early candy machinery, marble slabs, starch trays and copper kettles. The prized museum collection has more than 150 hand-painted European and Asian antique porcelain chocolate pots, some bearing the names of Haviland, Limoges, and Dresden. The Candy Americana® Museum offers our visitors a wonderful collection – a journey reminiscent of everything candy and chocolate.
In 1977, the modern candy kitchen was opened. The kitchen features handmade chocolates being created right before your eyes, including marshmallows, almond bark, peanut butter meltaways, heavenly hash, mint drizzle, and almond butter crunch. A video host takes you through theWorld of Chocolate. Starting with the history of the cocoa bean and ending with the modern-day products we crave today. Furthermore, learn how Cortez discovered the “Food of the Gods,” which started the chocolate craze in Europe and later in America.
Today, the museum is a major tourist attraction, yet there is still no admission charge!
We have been here once. It was a cute little place and you are able to watch the chocolate being made in the backroom.
Great store with lots of candies, chocolates, and other items. Not much on touring except for a video you can watch on how they make chocolate in the factory. You can watch ladies making fudge through glass.
Not an exciting place. There was a good sized store but that's most of what it was.
